What is STranslate
STranslate is a multifunctional translation and OCR tool designed specifically for Windows users. It supportsmultilingual translation, offers multiple translation methods such as text selection, screenshot, and clipboard monitoring, and provides interfaces to multiple translation services. It also features offline OCR functionality based on PaddleOCR, supporting recognition of Chinese, English, Japanese, and Korean. STranslate also provides convenient features such as keyboard shortcuts, history records, and online updates, making it a practical tool for improving work efficiency.
Main Features of STranslate
- Multilingual Translation: Supports translation of multiple languages, and users can translate through various methods such as input, text selection, and screenshots.
- OCR Text Recognition: Provides offline OCR functionality for languages such as Chinese, English, Japanese, and Korean. Based on PaddleOCR technology, it can quickly and accurately recognize text in images or documents.
- Multi-Service Support: Integrates multiple translation services, such as OpenAI, Gemini, ChatGLM, Baidu, Microsoft, Tencent, Youdao, Alibaba, etc. Users can choose different translation services according to their needs.
- Keyboard Shortcut Operation: The software supports global keyboard shortcuts, making it convenient for users to quickly invoke translation and OCR functions and improve work efficiency.
- History Records: Users can view and review previous translation records for easy searching and reference.
Technical Principles of STranslate
- OCR Technology: STranslate uses PaddleOCR as its offline OCR engine, a text recognition technology based on deep learning that can recognize text in images and convert it into an editable text format. PaddleOCR uses deep learning models such as convolutional neural networks (CNN) and recurrent neural networks (RNN) to achieve high-accuracy text recognition.
- Translation API Integration: The software integrates APIs from multiple translation services, such as Google Translate, Microsoft Translator, Baidu Translate, etc. These APIs use neural machine translation (NMT) technology to learn conversion rules between languages by training on large amounts of bilingual text data, providing high-quality translation results.
- Deep Learning Models: For supported translation services, STranslate uses advanced deep learning models such as Transformer. The models can handle complex language structures and provide more fluent and accurate translations.
- Keyboard Shortcuts and Event Listening: The software implements quick translation and OCR functions by listening to operating system keyboard shortcut events and mouse events. This involves operating system API calls and real-time responses to user input.
- Multithreading and Asynchronous Processing: To improve response speed and efficiency, STranslate uses multithreading and asynchronous programming techniques. Translation and OCR processing can be performed in parallel in the background without blocking the user interface.

How to Use STranslate
- Download and Installation:Visit STranslate's GitHub page and download the latest version of the software.Extract the downloaded file and run the executable program inside.
- First Run:After running the software, it will run silently in the system tray and will not immediately display an interface.
- Set Shortcuts:Right-click the STranslate icon in the system tray and select "Settings" to configure shortcuts. You can set global hotkeys to quickly invoke the translation and OCR features.
- Using the translation feature:Select the text you need to translate, and use the configured hotkey (e.g.
Alt + D) for selected-text translation.Or use theAlt + Shotkey to translate text on the screen via screenshot. - Using the OCR feature:Use the
Alt + Shift + Shotkey for fully offline OCR text recognition. You can use a screenshot tool to select the area to be recognized, then use the hotkey to perform OCR.
Use cases of STranslate
