Use When
- The firm's LinkedIn presence is weak and it wants a plan for what the company and its leaders should post.
- A Company Page needs setting up or growing: admin roles, follower invitations, Showcase or Product Pages, LinkedIn Events or Live, and a page content plan.
- Founder or partner profiles need reviewing so they support the company's authority.
- The client wants a thirty-day LinkedIn pilot with clear measures before committing more time.
Do Not Use When
playbook-social-sellingfor sales outreach, employee advocacy and high-ticket selling on LinkedIn.strategy-personal-brandfor building one individual's personal brand.playbook-paid-social-advertisingfor LinkedIn ad campaigns.- Stop before posting, messaging or changing a Company Page or profile without the owner's authority.
Required Inputs
| Artefact | Source/provider | Required? | If absent |
|---|---|---|---|
| Service scope, target buying roles, geography/language and buying situation | Approved brief or client interview | Yes | Stop; do not plan content without a named buyer and service. |
| Approved cases and samples, with confidentiality constraints | Client partner or practice lead | Yes | Use clearly labelled educational diagnostics; never present a demonstration as a client win. |
| Account baseline (profile, Company Page analytics, top posts) | Account admin or supplied audit | Conditional | Return a discovery plan, not an optimisation result; mark the baseline not assessed. |
| Website destinations, sales owner and CRM handoff | Client marketing or sales lead | Yes | Name the gap; the plan cannot promise a next step nobody can handle. |
| Available practitioner time and employee willingness | Practice lead | Yes | Size the pilot to the time stated; employee participation stays voluntary. |
| Current feature availability, field limits, image dimensions and privacy controls | Official LinkedIn help or the account | Conditional | Omit the specification or flag it for live verification. |
Workflow
- Confirm objective, buyer, decision owner and permission boundary; stop if the objective or owner is missing, or if the job is sales outreach or advocacy (
playbook-social-selling). - Decide practitioner-led, company-led or both from actual competence, buyer and proof, and from the distinct job and production capacity of each asset.
- Review each profile and the Company Page for consistency with the website, using the practitioner, content and pilot method; for Company Pages, Showcase or Product Pages and Events apply company pages, showcase and events.
- Plan content with the seven-role content system and choose text, document, video or article/newsletter by the job each piece does.
- Connect profile, evidence-bearing content, website destination and CRM handoff with consulting authority to pipeline.
- Build the thirty-day pilot to the agreed effort budget and review the first complete unit before expanding.
- Run the release criteria, rights, confidentiality, accessibility and anti-slop checks; correct any failed check and rerun it before handoff.
Outputs
| Artefact | Consumer | Acceptance condition |
|---|---|---|
| LinkedIn channel plan: practitioner/company roles, profile review, content roles and formats | Client owner and practitioners | Profile, content and website make the same supportable promise. |
| Company Page, Showcase/Product Page and Events plan | Page admin | Built from the company-pages reference; every legacy figure verified or removed. |
| Thirty-day pilot with content units | Delivery team | Each unit has buyer question, source, distinct argument, account, format, destination, owner and review date. |
| Measurement and review plan | Client owner and sales owner | Stages tracked separately with denominators and time windows; review decision options stated. |
Evidence Produced
| Evidence | Format | Acceptance condition |
|---|---|---|
| Feature and policy verification log | Table: claim, source, date | Every account feature and policy claim verified or omitted. |
| Case and rights approval record | Table per case, sample or quote | Each item has approver, date, confidentiality limit and rights. |
| Pilot review record | Table: audience evidence, conversations, website enquiries, accepted opportunities, won work, delivery economics | Self-reported discovery and offline referrals included without exact-attribution claims. |
Capability and Permission Boundaries
Read and search only; analysis is read-only. Publishing, spend, live account changes, outreach and personal-data processing need explicit, action-specific client authority. Drafting a message or post does not authorise sending it.
Degraded Mode
Without an account baseline or approved cases, return the narrowest qualified result and mark the affected checks not assessed. A discovery plan, profile review checklist and labelled educational pilot can still be delivered.
Decision Rules
| Condition | Action | Failure or risk avoided |
|---|---|---|
| Expertise belongs to a named practitioner | Lead with the personal profile and support it from the company page | Low-trust corporate-only publishing |
| No profile or page exists, or analytics are not accessible | Produce a set-up plan with assumptions labelled | False optimisation against invented history |
| Analytics show an established presence | Prioritise measured gaps and keep what already works | Destructive reset of working assets |
| A LinkedIn feature, field limit, event or newsletter mechanic is time-sensitive | Verify it against official LinkedIn help before stating it | Stale platform advice |
| The work is the organisation's Company Page, sub-pages or events | Apply company pages, showcase and events and amplify through willing employees | Faceless page publishing and fragmented sub-pages |
| The consultant has no approved client case studies | Use a clearly labelled educational diagnostic, explain its limits and link to a service page describing scope and acceptance | A demonstration turned into a claimed client win |
| The client is an artist, creative or public figure | Show verified work, credits and commissioning scope, or accurate sourced public information within platform restrictions | Reusing consulting sales copy and assuming reach or endorsement rights |
| The client judges LinkedIn only on this month's leads | Plan a broad-reach brand layer for the out-of-market majority beside lead generation (95:5, register LINKEDIN-B2B-95-5; see long/short balance and reach) |
Chasing the few in-market buyers while memory among the rest fades |
| The pilot review shows weak results | Decide to continue, revise the proposition, improve the destination, reduce cadence or stop; diagnose before increasing volume | Publishing more into an unexplained failure |
Quality Standards
- Profile, content and website make the same supportable promise.
- Each content unit contains specific evidence or useful professional judgement.
- Account features and current policy claims are verified or omitted.
- No engagement manipulation, fake cases, fabricated experience or universal targets remain.
- The website and sales owner can handle the next step promised by the content.
- Rights, confidentiality, accessibility and anti-slop reviews are recorded.
- No ranking formula, profile-completion multiplier, universal posting time, engagement quota or conversion benchmark is prescribed from books.
Anti-Patterns
- Prescribing a universal ratio of personal and company posts. Fix: give each asset a distinct job sized to production capacity.
- Qualifying a profile by an assumed All-Star multiplier or URL pattern. Fix: review identity, headline, opening explanation, experience, credentials, proof and next step.
- Forced curiosity gaps, theatrical reveals, compulsory signature hashtags and formulaic questions. Fix: write a useful opening, develop one defensible idea and stop when the job is done.
- Treating poll responses as market research. Fix: report them as a self-selected sample.
- Organising reciprocal engagement, scraping profiles or sending unsolicited automated sequences. Fix: use the relationship workflow in the consulting reference with the owner's authority.
- Counting a like, profile view or connection acceptance as a qualified lead or marketing permission. Fix: track conversations, enquiries and accepted opportunities as separate stages.
- Inventing twenty posts to satisfy a template. Fix: plan only units with a real buyer question and source.
