Overview
The reason the resolution "This year I'll definitely do it" fizzles out every year is that the goal is too distant and abstract. This skill compresses goals into 12-week units, subdivides them with a mandalart, and breaks them down into weekly actions, turning goals into actionable routines.

Workflow
Step 1: Goal Compression (12-Week Perspective)
A year is too far away. Instead of a year's worth of ambition, 1-3 core goals to focus on for 12 weeksreduce it to.
- If you leave a one-year goal as is, it's easy to procrastinate → cut it into units that can be "finished" within 12 weeks
- Don't take on too many. 1-3 is enough, and the fewer there are, the higher the achievement rate
- → Write the goal
동사 + 측정 가능한 결과 + 기한("Read 6 books within 12 weeks")
Step 2: Goal Subdivision (Mandalart)
Expand one big goal into 8 sub-areas (mandalart method).
| Position | Content |
|---|---|
| Center | 1 core goal |
| 8 surrounding cells | Sub-areas and means that make up the core goal |
| (If needed) Expansion | Each sub-area into 8 actions again |
→ Instead of "exercise", expand into specific areas such as diet, sleep, strength training 3 times a week, walking, stretching, etc.
Step 3: Setting Metrics (Applying Personal OKR)
Attach 2-3 measurable result indicators (Key Results) to each Objective.
- Objective (O): One sentence containing direction and meaning
- Key Result (KR): 2-3 numerically verifiable items ("exercise 3 times a week", "finish 2 books a month")
- → Turn abstract resolutions into indicators with clear "achieved/not achieved" status
Step 4: Breaking Down into Weekly Actions
Convert goals into actions repeated every week and turn them into routines.
- 12-week goal → weekly milestones → weekly repeated actions
- Use realistic frequencies like "Mon, Wed, Fri 30 minutes" rather than "30 minutes every day"
- → Hand over the derived weekly actions to
productivity-habitto turn them into habits
Step 5: Check-in and Review Cycle
- Weekly check: Check weekly action achievement rate (✔/✘) → adjust frequency if burdensome
- Biweekly review: Check KR progress, adjust blocked points
- End of 12 weeks: Achievement retrospective →
productivity-retroLink → Reset goals for the next 12 weeks
Usage examples
Example 1: "I set New Year's goals, but I'm worried they'll fizzle out like last year" → Compress the 1-year goal into 1–3 core 12-week goals → weekly action table → biweekly check-in checklist
Example 2: "This year's goal is 'growth,' but it's too vague" → Expand into 8 sub-areas with a mandalart → measurement indicators (KRs) for each area → weekly action plan
Example 3: "I want to manage quarterly goals with personal OKRs"
→ Quarterly Objective 12개 + KR 23 → weekly action mapping → Notion dashboard (doc-notion-template)
Deliverables
- 1–3 core 12-week goals
- Mandalart breakdown table (center + 8 areas)
- Measurement indicators per goal (personal OKR)
- Weekly action routine table
- Check-in and review cycle design
Precautions
- The more goals you set, the lower your achievement rate — narrow it to 1–3 in 12 weeks.
- Unmeasurable goals cannot be checked either — always set KRs as numbers.
- A plan is only a tool. If you get stuck, reduce the format and lower the frequency, prioritizing consistency.
