Overview
To put an end to not knowing where your money goes even though your salary comes in every month, create a money management system that flows from account structure, budget ratios, and spending records to regular reviews. Make saving happen through structure, not willpower.

Workflow
Step 1: Split Bank Accounts (Build Structure)
Divide accounts (or parking/CMA accounts) by purpose to force the flow of money.
| Account | Purpose | Operation |
|---|---|---|
| Salary account | Salary deposit → automatic distribution hub | Keep balance close to 0 |
| Fixed expenses account | Housing, telecom, insurance, subscriptions | Keep automatic transfers here |
| Living expenses account | Food, transportation, leisure (debit card) | Set weekly/monthly limits and use |
| Savings/investment account | Automatic transfer the day after payday | Set aside first before starting |
| Emergency fund account | 3–6 months of living expenses | Do not touch under normal circumstances |
Step 2: Set Budget Ratios
The basic guideline is 50/30/20(50 essentials / 30 discretionary / 20 savings and investments). Adjust to fit your income and situation.
- Entry-level workers and high-savings goals: 50/20/30 or more saved
- While repaying debt: allocate part of the savings bucket to repayment
- → Multiply your net pay by the ratios to calculate the monthly limit for each bucket.
Step 3: Household Budget Categories (Recording)
Divide spending into just 3 categories to reduce the burden of recordkeeping.
- Fixed expenses: the same amount each month (housing, telecom, subscriptions, insurance)
- Variable expenses: changes each month (food, transportation, shopping, leisure)
- Irregular: annual expenses (holidays, travel, events, taxes) → divide by 12 and save monthly
→ Automatic categorization by card company and banking apps + a 5-minute check once a week is enough. No need to write down every receipt.
Step 4: Find Money Leaks
- Subscription check: cancel unused OTT, memberships, and app subscriptions
- Fixed expense diet: check telecom plans and overlapping insurance (
insurance-fitlinked) - Variable expense patterns: identify the top 3 leak items such as delivery, cafes, and impulse purchases
Step 5: Spending Review Routine
- Weekly (5 minutes): Usage against per-category limits, adjust next week
- Monthly: Check savings rate (savings ÷ take-home pay), review leak items
- Annual: Yearly spending review + next year's budget·goals →

Usage examples
Example 1: "My monthly take-home is 3 million won, how do I split accounts and set a budget?" → 5-account structure + 50/30/20 applied (essentials 150 / discretionary 90 / savings 60) → automatic transfer setup plan
Example 2: "Money keeps leaking but I don't know where to cut" → Fixed costs·subscriptions·variable costs review checklist → top 3 leaks + reduction plan
Example 3: "It's year-end and I want to review this year's spending and plan next year" → Spending review by category → overspending items + next year's budget table + savings goals
Deliverables
- Account splitting structure diagram (by purpose)
- Ratio-based monthly budget table
- Fixed/variable/irregular classified household ledger template
- Money leak review checklist
- Weekly/monthly/yearly spending review routine
Precautions
- Budget ratios are a starting point and should be adjusted according to income·debt·household type.
- Consistency matters more than perfection in record-keeping — a once-a-week automatic classification check is enough.
- If you leave out irregular expenses (holidays·travel·taxes), your budget collapses → save up for them in advance each month.
