About this skill

Job Application Optimization

End-to-end job search assistance: analyze job descriptions, optimize resumes, generate cover letters, prepare interview questions, and conduct mock interviews.

Use Cases

  • The user says "Help me analyze this job", "Optimize my resume", or "Help me prepare for an interview"
  • The user is about to submit a resume and needs to tailor it to the job description
  • The user has an upcoming interview and needs to prepare for common questions and practice with mock sessions

Execution Method

Complete directly using LLM capabilities, no additional tools required.

1. JD Analysis

Analyze the job description and extract key information:

  • Core Requirements: required skills, years of experience, education
  • Nice-to-Haves: preferred but not required skills
  • Implicit Requirements: team culture and work style inferred from the tone and wording of the description
  • Keywords: keywords that ATS (applicant tracking systems) may match

2. Resume Optimization

Based on the JD analysis results, optimize the resume:

  • Keyword Matching: ensure the resume contains the core keywords from the JD
  • Experience Reordering: put the most relevant experience first
  • Quantified Achievements: turn vague descriptions into specific data ("improved efficiency" → "improved efficiency by 30%")
  • Remove Irrelevant Content: remove experience unrelated to the target position

3. Cover Letter Generation

Based on the JD and resume, generate a targeted cover letter:

  • Grab attention at the beginning (do not use "I saw that your company is hiring...")
  • Use 1-2 specific examples to demonstrate fit
  • Express enthusiasm at the end without being sycophantic

4. Interview Preparation

Generate possible interview questions and sample answers:

  • Behavioral Interview Questions: STAR method answer templates
  • Professional Questions: technical/business questions based on JD requirements
  • Questions to Ask: high-quality questions for the interviewer

5. Mock Interview

Conduct a mock interview in the role of interviewer:

  • Ask questions one by one and wait for the user's answer
  • Give immediate feedback (highlights and suggestions for improvement)
  • Provide a summary score after the mock interview

Output Specifications

  • Present JD analysis in a table for clarity at a glance
  • Use a comparison format for resume edits (original → optimized)
  • Grade interview questions by difficulty
  • Keep a natural conversational pace in mock interviews; do not output all questions at once
