Core Philosophy: The Epiplexity Principle

Core insight from the paper "From Entropy to Epiplexity":

+------------------------------------------------------------------+
|                                                                  |
+------------------------------------------------------------------+

Practical Implications:

  • When you feel you "can't understand" a book, it's not that the book is too hard—it's that the compute you've invested isn't enough yet
  • Ways to increase compute: multiple rounds of reading, examining from multiple perspectives, actively generating, building connections
  • Goal of this skill: maximize your "cognitive compute investment" through a structured process

Execution Steps

Step 1: Receive the Book

Wait for the user to provide a book title, book content, or related links. If only the title is given, use WebSearch to obtain the book's core content.

Step 2: Three Rounds of Cognitive Compression

Round One: Skeleton Scan

Goal: establish the global structure, answer "what is this book saying"

  • Core Question: What question is the author trying to answer?
  • Core Answer: What is the author's answer? (one sentence)
  • Chapter Skeleton: The core argument of each chapter (no more than 10 characters per chapter)
  • Argument Structure: Deductive, inductive, case-based, or comparative?

Round Two: Deep Dissection

Goal: understand the chain of argumentation, answer "on what basis does it say this"

  • Core Argument Chain: What logic does the author use to support the core answer?
  • Key Evidence: The 3 most persuasive pieces of evidence/cases
  • Hidden Assumptions: Premises the author doesn't state but that must hold
  • Counterexamples and Boundaries: Under what circumstances would the author's conclusion fail?

Round Three: Soul Extraction

Goal: go beyond the author, answer "how else can it be used"

  • Author's Blind Spots: What did the author not see?
  • Transferable Patterns: What is this idea called in other fields?
  • Connection to Me: Possible intersections between this book and the reader's existing knowledge
  • Action Trigger: After reading this book, what should be done differently?

Step 3: Napkin Compression

Perform extreme compression, generating:

  • Napkin Formula: If this book could leave only one formula, what would it be?
  • Napkin Diagram: If this book could leave only one diagram, what would be drawn? (ASCII)
  • One Sentence: If it could be summarized in only one sentence, what would be said?

Step 4: Generate Org Report

Use the Write tool to generate an org-mode file according to the following template.

Important: The report must include the complete content of the three rounds of compression + the final napkin output.

#+title:      {书名}
#+date:       [{YYYY-MM-DD Day HH:MM}]
#+filetags:   :read:xray:book:
#+identifier: {YYYYMMDDTHHMMSS}
#+author:     {作者}

* NAPKIN | 餐巾纸

** 公式

#+begin_example
+----------------------------------------------------------+
|                                                          |
|                                                          |
+----------------------------------------------------------+
#+end_example

{一句话解释公式含义}

** 一句话

{如果只能用一句话概括这本书}

** 草图

#+begin_example
{餐巾纸图: 用 ASCII 绘制核心概念,要求一眼能懂}
#+end_example

* ROUND 1: SKELETON | 骨架扫描

"这本书在说什么"

**核心问题**: {作者试图回答什么}

**核心答案**: {一句话回答}

1. {章节1}: {核心论点,不超过10字}
2. {章节2}: {核心论点}
3. ...

**论证结构**: {演绎/归纳/案例/对比}

* ROUND 2: DISSECTION | 血肉解剖

"凭什么这么说"

**论证链**:

#+begin_example
{前提1} --> {前提2} --> ... --> {结论}
#+end_example

1. {证据1}
2. {证据2}
3. {证据3}

- {假设1: 作者没说但必须成立的前提}
- {假设2}

- {何时失效1}
- {何时失效2}

* ROUND 3: SOUL | 灵魂提取

**知识连接**: {与常见知识体系的交叉点}

**行动触发**: {读完应该做什么不同的事}

* STRUCTURE MAP | 全书结构图

#+begin_example
{全书逻辑结构图: 用纯 ASCII 绘制,展示核心概念间的关系}
#+end_example

Step 5: Save and Open

  1. Generate timestamp: use Bash to execute date +%Y%m%dT%H%M%S to get the current time
    • Book title: keep Chinese, lowercase English, convert spaces to hyphens
    • Example:20260207T220000--思考快与慢__book.org
  3. Save path:~/Documents/notes/{文件名}
  4. Use Bash to execute:open ~/Documents/notes/{文件名}

Output Quality Standards

  • Completeness: Must include all content from the three rounds of compression + napkin output
  • Extreme Compression: The napkin formula/diagram must be understandable at a glance
  • Critical Perspective: Must point out hidden assumptions and boundary conditions
  • Connection-Oriented: Must establish connections with existing knowledge
  • Action-Oriented: Must produce executable action triggers
  • ASCII Art: Use only pure ASCII basic symbols (+, -, |, >, <, /, , *, =, .), no Unicode
