About this skill

reload — herdr agent self-reload

Wake yourself (or any agent in the current pane) after a delay by typing a prompt back into the pane and pressing Enter. Useful for polling, timed follow-ups, "check again in 5 minutes", or resuming a paused workflow without a human in the loop.

How it works

  1. Resolve the current pane from $HERDR_PANE_ID (fallback: herdr pane current).
  2. Launch a detached background timer (nohup, or setsid on Linux) that outlives the current agent turn.
  3. After the delay it runs herdr pane send-text <pane> "<prompt>" then herdr pane send-keys <pane> enter — the prompt lands in the pane's input and submits, re-prompting the idle agent.

The heavy lifting is in scripts/reload.sh, which handles pane resolution, delay parsing, and cross-platform detaching (Linux + macOS).

Usage

Run the bundled script (use the Base directory for this skill value injected when this skill loads as $SKILL):

bash "$SKILL/scripts/reload.sh" <delay> <prompt...>

Examples:

bash "$SKILL/scripts/reload.sh" 4m "continue where you left off"
bash "$SKILL/scripts/reload.sh" 30s "re-run the tests and report results"
bash "$SKILL/scripts/reload.sh" 2h "check if the deploy finished"
bash "$SKILL/scripts/reload.sh" 09:30 "start the morning standup summary"

Run it in the foreground (not a background Bash call) — the script returns immediately after arming the detached timer and prints a confirmation line. Then end your turn. When the timer fires it re-prompts you automatically.

Delay formats

Form Meaning
90 bare number = seconds
30s seconds
4m minutes
2h hours
1d days
HH:MM next wall-clock occurrence (today/tomorrow)

Important

  • Single-line prompts only. A newline in the prompt submits early. Keep the reload prompt to one line.
  • The pane must stay open. If the user closes the pane or the herdr session, the timer has nowhere to deliver the prompt (it fails silently; see the log at $TMPDIR/herdr-reload.log).
  • One timer per call. Call the script again to schedule additional reloads.
  • Only works inside a herdr pane. Outside herdr the script errors out with a clear message.
