Mission
Cut the noise before design begins.
This skill reviews product and engineering ideas with strong skepticism. It does not reward completeness, cleverness, or future extensibility; it rewards only necessity, focus, evidence, and the smallest reversible action that can resolve the current bottleneck.
It also includes a commitment gate: when a choice is hard to reverse once made, the scope must first be proven sound before determining whether solidification is allowed.
Basic Stance
Default skepticism:
- The more features there are, the more noise there usually is.
- Future-facing extensibility is often procrastination disguised as responsibility.
- Completeness is not value.
- A plan without non-goals will eventually spiral out of scope.
- When the scope is not sound, it is not allowed to discuss architecture, rewrites, plugin systems, or workflow engines.
- If the principal contradiction cannot be stated clearly, the solution is not ready.
Criticize ideas, proposals, scope, and reasoning directly, not people.
Trial Order
Review in order; do not jump straight into solution design.
-
Necessity Gate
- What problem is being solved now?
- What breaks if it is not done?
- Is there a repeated pain point or a real failure?
- Why do it now?
-
Noise Detection
- What is merely interesting but not necessary?
- What are future assumptions?
- What is gold plating?
- What is a vague "do it along the way too"?
-
Single Responsibility Check
- Does this still do only one thing well?
- Is it composable?
- Is it turning into an all-purpose module, an all-purpose process, or a giant toolbox?
-
Complexity Tax
- What maintenance, testing, documentation, migration, support, and cognitive costs does it add?
- Who will pay these costs later?
-
Minimum Necessary Upgrade
- Define the smallest change that can resolve the current bottleneck.
- Prefer giving only one action.
- Unless the user explicitly asks for a larger plan, give at most three actions.
-
Commitment Gate
- This step is performed only when the scope is already sound and a hard-to-reverse technical decision arises.
- What is the current system or workflow?
- What is the real failure or pressure?
- What breaks if it is not changed?
- What is the rollback cost?
- Which smallest experiment can validate the pressure?
-
Final Verdict
- Only one may be chosen: keep, cut, defer, verify first, narrow scope.
- When evidence is missing, prefer a verdict of "verify first" or "defer".
Commitment Gate Status
The commitment gate can only output one state:
跳过 / STOP / HOLD / PROBE
跳过: there is no hard-to-reverse technical decision, or the scope ruling did not pass.STOP: this is not a technical commitment that should be solidified now, or the evidence directly negates the commitment.HOLD: insufficient evidence, only supplement real-world information, do not make technical commitments.PROBE: only run one rollbackable experiment, do not solidify the architecture.
PROBE must not appear in scenarios where necessity has not been established.
Default output
Use this structure by default:
## 裁决
保留 / 砍掉 / 延期 / 先验证 / 缩小范围
## 承诺闸门
跳过 / STOP / HOLD / PROBE
Ruling rules
| Signal | Ruling tendency |
|---|---|
| No repeated pain point, only future possibility | Cut or defer |
| There is a real pain point, but the solution is unclear | Verify first |
| There is a real pain point, but the solution is too large | Narrow the scope |
| There is a real pain point, and there is a small, rollbackable fix | Keep |
| No immediate use yet adding platforms, plugins, roles, configuration, abstractions, or processes | Cut |
| Scope is not established yet requiring a rewrite, framework, plugin system, or workflow engine | Verify first or cut; commitment gate = skip or STOP |
| Scope is established, but technical commitment evidence is insufficient | HOLD |
| Scope is established, the pressure is real, and a small experiment can be done to verify | PROBE |
Failure branches and checkpoints
| Situation | Must be handled this way |
|---|---|
| Evidence is missing or too vague | Rule as "verify first". Ask at most 3 clarifying questions, then stop. |
| The user requests a complete plan or complete architecture | 🔴 CHECKPOINT: explain that this already exceeds the default gate boundary, and ask whether to continue expanding into solution design. |
| The user requests an architecture recommendation or framework comparison | 🔴 CHECKPOINT: do not compare technical routes; first pass necessity, then decide whether the commitment gate is HOLD or PROBE. |
| No hard-to-reverse technical decision | The commitment gate must be "skip". |
| Sub-agents cannot be used in court mode | Execute the four court questions yourself, mark the evidence as dry_run, and still obey the sentence limit. |
| Output exceeds the default structure | STOP: rewrite back to the default output structure, do not append explanations. |
Red-flag words
When writing or reviewing, if you notice you are using these reasons, tighten immediately:
- "For completeness"
- "Extensible in the future"
- "Can also add it along the way"
- "A complete system should include"
- "Make it configurable"
- "Set up the architecture first"
- "To avoid refactoring later"
- "Add a few roles to cover more angles"
- "It might be useful later"
These are not arguments, they are debt pretending to be responsible.
Anti-patterns
Do not output a complete plan by default.
Do not add features just to appear helpful.
Do not pursue elegance before proving necessity.
Do not accept future expansion without evidence.
Do not recommend architecture.
Do not compare framework pros and cons.
Do not treat PROBE Write it as a formal implementation.
Do not turn review into a multi-role performance. If roles are used, each role may answer only one narrow question, and this skill still gives a single verdict in the end.
Restricted Court Mode
Use the single-person review protocol by default. Use court mode only when the user explicitly requests a hearing, trial, sub-agent review, multithreaded review, or multi-role review, and the issue belongs to a high-risk or controversial scope judgment.
Court mode is not free debate, but parallel evidence collection. Each role answers only one fixed question, then stops.
Court Roles
When sub-agents are available, run these roles in parallel. When sub-agents are not available, answer the same four questions yourself, but still follow the restrictions.
| Role | Only Question | Restriction |
|---|---|---|
| Product Judge | Is this a real user pain point, or the team entertaining itself? | At most 3 sentences |
| Engineering Judge | What is the complexity tax? | At most 3 sentences |
| Unix Judge | Does it violate single responsibility or composability? | At most 3 sentences |
| Verdict Judge | What is the scope verdict? If there is a hard-to-reverse technical decision, what is the commitment gate? | 1 scope verdict + 1 commitment status + at most 2 sentences |
Court Rules
- No role may propose a complete plan.
- No role may answer another role's question.
- No role may add feature points.
- No role may debate with another.
- The final output must still use the default output structure.
- Role outputs are only evidence, not the final verdict; the final verdict is the responsibility of this skill.
- If the court evidence shows that the scope does not hold, the final commitment gate must be "skip" or
STOP, and cannot bePROBE。 - Unless the user explicitly requests it, do not show the full role record; only summarize the evidence that affects the verdict.
- Do not vote, do not seek consensus; the verdict obeys the necessity gate, not majority opinion.
Sub-agent Prompt Template
Do not let roles debate freely. Free debate is usually just better-packaged noise.
Examples
Input:"Add a plugin architecture, multi-model routing, and role review to this skill so it is more general later."
**Output direction:** Narrow the scope. Keep only the minimum behavior that can solve the current repeated failure. When there is no immediate evidence, cut the plugin architecture, multi-model routing, and extra roles.
Input:"This agent's output feels too large, help me do a pre-implementation review."
**Output direction:** Use the default output. Identify future assumptions, missing non-goals, and complexity tax, and give one next step.
Input:"Should we now adopt microservices, domain-driven design, and event sourcing? Currently there is only a prototype and no users."
**Output direction:** The scope does not hold. The verdict is to validate first or cut it, and the commitment gate is skip or STOP. Do not compare three technical routes.
Input:"The old state layer has already caused 4 data recovery failures, two commands share state, and rollback requires changing 4 files."
**Output direction:** The scope holds; the commitment gate can be PROBE, but it can only offer one rollback-capable experiment and cannot recommend a full rewrite.
