About this skill

cross-border-localize — Cross-border localization

Selling the same product in different countries,is not just translating the Chinese copy once and calling it done。

Size systems differ, compliance marks differ, aesthetic preferences differ, and platform specs differ. This skill lays out one set of assets into versions that can be listed directly in multiple regions.

I. Capability boundaries

Can do Description
Copy localization Not literal translation, but rewriting according to local expression habits
Size conversion CN / US / UK / EU / JP comparison chart
Regional main images Main images with copy laid out in the local language
Platform spec adaptation Image specs for mainstream platforms in each region
Compliance mark reminders Reminders of common required marks in the region
Cannot do Description
Legal advice Compliance marks are only reminders; consult professional channels before formal listing
Guarantee error-free translation Have important copy reviewed by a native speaker

II. Localization is not equal to translation

Dimension China site North America site Japan site
Copy style Dense selling points, many numbers Concise, emphasizes scenarios and personality Polite, restrained, detailed
Main image information density Can carry more text Main images usually prohibit text Medium information density
Sizes S/M/L + specific centimeters XS–XXL, conversion required Number system differs, runs small
Models Asian faces Needs diverse faces Asian faces
Promotional expression Direct discounts Emphasizes value and guarantees Emphasizes quality and after-sales service

The most common mistake: pasting a literal translation of the dense copy from a Chinese main image onto an Amazon main image— main images prohibit text, so it is directly rejected.

III. Size conversion

Tops (women's clothing, for reference only; refer to the brand size chart for specifics):

CN US UK EU JP
S / 155-160 2-4 6-8 34-36 7-9
M / 160-165 6-8 10-12 38-40 11-13
L / 165-170 10-12 14-16 42-44 15-17
XL / 170-175 14-16 18-20 46-48 19-21

Always provide specific centimeter measurements as well. Brand fits vary greatly, letter sizes are unreliable, and the centimeter measurements for bust/shoulder width/garment length are what buyers really want, and are also the most effective item for reducing return rates.

IV. Regional platform specs

Region Mainstream platforms Key image rule points
North America Amazon Main image pure white RGB(255,255,255), product occupies ≥85%, no text or watermarks
Southeast Asia Shopee / Lazada Square image, tight size limit (≤2MB)
Global TikTok Shop 1:1 or 3:4, no borders or watermarks
Global Temu Square image, clean background, main image must not contain promotional text
Independent site Shopify No hard restrictions, 2048 square image is convenient for magnifier

Once all regional versions are done, run validation one by one:

python3 scripts/check_listing.py out/us/*.jpg --platform amazon
python3 scripts/check_listing.py out/sea/*.jpg --platform shopee
python3 scripts/check_listing.py out/global/*.jpg --platform tiktok-shop

V. Tool Invocation

North America main image (no text, compliant route)

node scripts/gen.mjs --task cross-border-localize --brand examples/brand.yaml \
--prompt 'E-commerce main image of an olive cable-knit crewneck sweater on a model. Diverse casting suitable for the North American market. Pure seamless white background, RGB 255,255,255. Product fills 88% of the frame. No text, no logo, no watermark.' \
  --images docs/flat-lay/garment-flatlay.jpg docs/flat-lay/pose-reference.jpg \
  --save out/us/A001-main.jpg

python3 scripts/check_listing.py out/us/A001-main.jpg --platform amazon

Japan site detail image (with Japanese typography)

node scripts/gen.mjs --task cross-border-localize --brand examples/brand.yaml \
--prompt 'E-commerce detail module for a Japanese marketplace listing. Olive cable-knit sweater. Clean vertical layout with generous margins, restrained typography. Japanese text overlay reading: 「厚手ケーブルニット」「三層構造で暖かい」. Soft neutral background. No watermark.' \
  --images docs/flat-lay/garment-flatlay.jpg \
  --save out/jp/A001-detail.jpg

⚠️ Non-English text generated by the model often contains errors(especially mixed Japanese kanji and kana). All versions with text must be manually checked, or switch to the approach of "generating a text-free base image + later typography."

VI. Execution Process

  1. Ask clearly which regions it will be sold to, do not default to "global."
  2. Make the text-free version first. Text-free main images can pass on most platforms and are the easiest common base.
  3. Derive by region: produce text versions separately, and manually check the text after production.
  4. Run compliance validation region by region, specifications differ and cannot be mixed.
  5. Produce the size chart as a separate image, providing both letter sizes and centimeter measurements.
  6. Compliance labels: remind the user of common required labels in that region (composition label, country of origin, certification mark, etc.), and clearly state that this is only a reminder and must be confirmed independently before official listing.

VII. Common Questions

Symptom Cause What to do
Generated foreign text has typos The model has weak support for non-Latin text Generate a text-free base image and add text in post
Chinese main image was directly translated and rejected The target platform prohibits text on main images Produce a text-free version
High return rate Only letter sizes were provided Add centimeter measurements and model try-on size
One set of images for everything was rejected by multiple platforms Platform specifications differ Produce one version per region and run validation one by one

Tips

  • Text-free base images are assets. Make it well first, then derive for each region; this saves far more than generating from scratch for each region.
  • Model selection follows the market. North America sites need diverse faces; this is not political correctness, it is a conversion rate issue.
  • Centimeter measurements are more useful than any copy. Cross-border returns are costly; the more specific the size information, the more money is saved.
