What is PartGen
PartGen is an advanced 3D object generation and reconstruction framework, jointly launched by the Visual Geometry Group at the University of Oxford and Meta AI. PartGen can identify and generate 3D objects composed of meaningful parts, and 3D objects can be generated based on text prompts, images, or existing 3D models. PartGen uses a multi-view diffusion model to automatically extract and reconstruct the individual parts of a 3D object, while taking context into account to ensure correct fitting between components. PartGen supports 3D part editing, allowing users to modify specific parts of a 3D object according to text instructions, improving the flexibility and control of 3D modeling.
Main features of PartGen
- 3D object generation: Generate 3D objects composed of meaningful parts from text, images, or existing 3D objects.
- 3D part editing: Users can edit specific parts of a 3D object based on text instructions, increasing flexibility.
- Automatic part segmentation: Identify and segment different parts of a 3D object, providing a basis for subsequent operations.
- 3D reconstruction: After completing part segmentation, reconstruct the 3D structure of each part.
Technical principles of PartGen
- Multi-view diffusion model: Based on a multi-view diffusion model, it processes multiple views of a 3D object, and the model can identify reasonable part segmentation.
- Part segmentation network: Train a network to process multi-view images and output a segmentation mask for each part.
- Part completion network: For occluded or invisible parts, use the multi-view diffusion model to complete the views of these parts.
- 3D reconstruction network: Input the completed 2D views into the 3D reconstruction network to recover the 3D structure of each part.
- Context integration: During completion and reconstruction, the model considers the context information of the entire object to ensure that all parts are integrated in a coordinated and consistent manner.
