On May 15, 2024, the AI Generative Protein Design startup headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USANabla Bioannounced it has raised $26 million in Series A funding. The round was led by Radical Ventures, with participation from all existing investors, and it has established strategic partnerships with AstraZeneca, Bristol Myers Squibb, and Takeda.
The company plans to use the raised funds to develop its integrated artificial intelligence (AI) and wet lab technologies to design and develop developable, highly selective, and functionally active protein drugs, particularly for multi-pass membrane protein targets.
Nabla Bio was founded in December 2021 by Surge Biswas and Frances Anastassacos. Surge Biswas, with the help of colleagues in George Church's lab at Harvard University, published a series of Nature Methods and Nature Biotechnology papers on the first protein language model, laying the foundation for the field. Frances Anastassacos co-founded Nabla after working in biotechnology venture capital and completing her PhD at Harvard. The company's main business is developing AI and wet lab technologies to enable rational drug design against previously undruggable targets. Since its founding in 2021, Nabla Bio has raised $37 million in funding, with support from leading investors including Radical Ventures, Khosla Ventures, and Zetta Venture Partners.
