What is MCP Server Chart
MCP Server Chart is a visualization chart generation tool launched by the AntV team at Ant Group. The tool is based on the Model Context Protocol (MCP) protocol, supports over 25 types of visualization charts, including common statistical charts (such as line charts, bar charts, pie charts) and relational charts (such as organizational charts, mind maps, network graphs, etc.), and supports annotated maps and route maps. Users only need simple text input to quickly generate charts without complex operations. The tool supports integration with multiple clients, such as Cherry Studio, Claude Desktop, etc., and provides SSE and Streamable transport protocols, making it easy to integrate into different platforms.
Main Features of MCP Server Chart
- Rich Chart Types: Supports over 25 types of visualization charts, covering common statistical charts (line charts, bar charts, pie charts, etc.), relational charts (organizational charts, mind maps, network graphs, etc.), as well as annotated maps and route maps.
- Simple and Easy to Use: Users can quickly generate the desired charts based on simple text input, without complex operations and configuration, greatly lowering the threshold for data visualization.
- Multiple Client Integrations: Supports integration with multiple clients, such as Cherry Studio, Claude Desktop, VSCode, etc., making it convenient for users to use in different development environments.
- Flexible Deployment Options: While providing public services, it also supports private deployment. Users can customize the chart generation service based on the VIS_REQUEST_SERVER environment variable, meeting the needs of different users.
- Generation Record Viewing: Provides a generation record viewing service, allowing users to generate a personal service identifier based on the Alipay mini program and view generated chart records, facilitating management and traceability.
Technical Principles of MCP Server Chart
- Based on the MCP Protocol: MCP Server Chart follows the Model Context Protocol (MCP) protocol, which clearly defines the definition of tools, enabling the model to directly recognize and parse the parameters in the tools, achieving efficient data interaction and chart generation.
- GPT-Vis Visualization Component Library: Based on the GPT-Vis visualization component library designed for AI consumption, it provides 25+ charts available for AI consumption. The component library combines AntV's visualization solutions to quickly generate various types of charts.
- Server-Side Rendering (SSR): Based on the design of GPT-Vis and the server-side rendering capabilities (SSR) of G2 and G6, it implements SSR rendering of charts into static images. Compared to front-end UI components, static images have better cross-platform and transmission characteristics, making them more suitable for display on different devices and platforms.
- Static Chart Generation Tool: Encapsulates GPT-Vis SSR into a static chart generation tool, providing static chart output services. It is built with NodeJS internally at Ant Group and provides externally accessible services. Users can generate the desired charts based on simple configuration and calls.
- Support for Multiple Transport Protocols: Supports multiple transport protocols (such as stdio, SSE, streamable). Users can choose the appropriate transport method according to different usage scenarios, improving the flexibility and scalability of the system.
