What is LalaEval
LalaEval is a human evaluation framework for domain-specific large language models (LLMs) jointly launched by the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Lalamove data science team. Through a complete end-to-end protocol, the framework covers domain specification, standard establishment, benchmark dataset creation, evaluation rule construction, and analysis and interpretation of evaluation results. Its core feature is that through dispute level and score fluctuation analysis, it automatically corrects human subjective errors and generates high-quality question-answer pairs. LalaEval adopts the single-blind testing principle to ensure the objectivity and fairness of scoring. It has been successfully applied in the logistics field.
Main functions of LalaEval
- Domain scope definition: Clarify the scope and boundaries of a specific domain, related to the organization's goals or business needs. In the logistics field, it progressively rises from the most底层 subdomains (such as same-city freight) to broader subdomains.
- Capability indicator construction: Define the capability dimensions for evaluating LLM performance, effectiveness, or applicability, including general capabilities and domain capabilities. General capabilities include semantic understanding, contextual dialogue, factual accuracy, etc.; domain capabilities involve concept and terminology understanding, industry policy knowledge, etc.
- Evaluation set generation: Develop standardized tests and collect data from reviewed information sources, and conduct evaluations under consistent conditions.
- Evaluation standard formulation: Design detailed scoring schemes to provide a structured framework for human evaluators, ensuring the scientificity and reliability of the evaluation.
- Statistical analysis of results: Systematically examine the data in the evaluation process, and through analysis frameworks such as scoring dispute level, question dispute level, and scoring volatility, automatically implement quality inspection of scoring results, secondary identification of low-quality QA pairs, and quantitative attribution of the causes of scoring fluctuations.
Technical principles of LalaEval
- Single-blind testing principle: During the evaluation process, the model's responses are anonymized and presented to at least three human evaluators in random order.
- Dispute level and scoring fluctuation analysis: LalaEval automatically detects and corrects subjective errors in human scoring by establishing three major analysis frameworks: scoring dispute level, question dispute level, and scoring volatility.
- Structured evaluation process: LalaEval adopts an end-to-end evaluation process, covering domain scope definition, capability indicator construction, evaluation set generation, evaluation standard formulation, and statistical analysis of results.
- Dynamically interactive deployment structure: LalaEval's deployment structure emphasizes modularity and dynamic interaction, and can flexibly adjust the evaluation process according to different business scenarios, ensuring the framework's scalability in different domains.

Application scenarios of LalaEval
- Large model evaluation in the logistics field: LalaEval targets specific business scenarios such as same-city freight. By clarifying the domain scope, constructing capability indicators, generating evaluation sets, and formulating evaluation standards, LalaEval can scientifically evaluate the performance of large language models in the logistics industry and help enterprises optimize logistics business processes.
- Evaluation of invitation large models: In driver invitation scenarios, LalaEval evaluates the performance of large models in automated invitation tasks by simulating real dialogue scenarios.
- Customization and optimization of enterprise internal large models: LalaEval provides enterprises with a standardized evaluation method that can dynamically generate evaluation sets according to the enterprise's own business needs and reduce manual subjectivity through automated analysis.
- Scalability for cross-domain applications: The design follows the principles of modularity and dynamic interaction, and can be flexibly extended to other domains.
