What is IndexTTS2
IndexTTS2 is a newtext-to-speech(TTS) model developed by Bilibili's speech team, and it has been officially open-sourced. The model achieves major breakthroughs in emotional expression and duration control, and is the first autoregressive TTS model to support precise duration control. It supports zero-shotvoice cloning, accurately replicating timbre, rhythm, and speaking style with just one audio file, and supports multiple languages. IndexTTS2 achieves decoupled control of emotion and timbre, allowing users to independently specify the timbre source and emotion source. The model features multimodal emotional input, supporting emotion control through emotional reference audio, emotional description text, or emotion vectors.
Main Features of IndexTTS2
-
Zero-shot voice cloning: With just one reference audio, it can accurately imitate the voice, intonation, and rhythm of that audio, supports multiple languages, and enables highly personalized voice synthesis.
-
Emotion and duration control: Supports zero-shot emotion cloning, can simulate the emotion in reference audio, and can control speech emotion through text descriptions. It features the world's first precise duration control, allowing the length of generated speech to be set, meeting the needs of scenarios such as film dubbing and timeline synchronization.
-
High-fidelity audio quality: Audio sampling rate up to 48kHz, supports lossless audio output, and combined with an optimized vocoder, generates natural, fluent, and emotionally rich speech, reducing mechanical feel and improving audio quality.
-
Multimodal input support: Supports multiple input methods such as text and audio. Users can control the style and emotion of generated speech through text descriptions, reference audio, or emotion vectors, providing a more flexible speech synthesis experience.
-
Local deployment and open source: Supports fully local deployment and plans to open model weights, providing developers with powerful tools, empowering more application scenarios, and promoting the widespread application of TTS technology.
Technical Principles of IndexTTS2
-
Modular architecture: Composed of three core modules: text-to-semantic (T2S), semantic-to-melody (S2M), and vocoder. The modules work together to achieve conversion from text to high-quality speech.
-
Emotion and timbre decoupling: Through techniques such as gradient reversal layers, emotion and timbre features are decoupled from the prompt, allowing users to independently control emotion and timbre for more flexible speech synthesis.
-
Multi-stage training strategy: Adopts a multi-stage training strategy to overcome the lack of high-quality emotional data, enhancing the model's emotional expression ability and improving the naturalness and emotional richness of speech synthesis.
-
High sampling rate and optimized vocoder: Audio sampling rate up to 48kHz, combined with an optimized vocoder such as BigVGAN2, generates high-fidelity, natural, and fluent speech, reducing mechanical feel and improving audio quality.
-
Zero-shot cloning technology: Through advanced zero-shot cloning technology, only one reference audio is needed to accurately imitate voice, intonation, and rhythm, supports multiple languages, and enables highly personalized voice synthesis.

Upgrade Points of IndexTTS2 Compared to IndexTTS1.5
-
Precise duration control feature: IndexTTS2 is the first autoregressive TTS model that supports precise duration control, capable of specifying the length of generated audio with millisecond-level precision. IndexTTS1.5 does not have this feature.
-
Separate modeling of emotion and timbre: IndexTTS2 achieves separate modeling of emotion and timbre, allowing users to independently control emotion and timbre. In IndexTTS1.5, the control over emotion and timbre is relatively less fine-grained.
-
Multimodal emotion input support: IndexTTS2 supports controlling the emotion of generated speech through multiple methods such as audio emotion references, textual emotion descriptions, or emotion vectors. Although IndexTTS1.5 also supports emotion control, the methods are relatively limited.
-
Stronger emotional expression capability: IndexTTS2 has been optimized in emotional expression and can better simulate various emotional states. IndexTTS1.5 has also improved in emotional expression, but there is still a gap compared with generation 2.
-
Better speech stability: Through technologies such as GPT latent representations and soft instruction mechanisms, IndexTTS2 enhances the stability of speech generation. IndexTTS1.5 has also improved in stability, but generation 2 further optimizes on this basis.
Application scenarios of IndexTTS2
-
Film and television dubbing: It can provide high-quality dubbing for film and television works, precisely control speech duration and emotion, and meet the needs of audio-visual synchronization.
-
Virtual characters: It gives virtual characters natural and emotionally rich speech, improving the interaction experience of virtual characters and user immersion.
-
Audiobooks: It generates natural and fluent speech, provides high-quality speech synthesis for audiobook production, and improves the listening experience of the audience.
-
Intelligent assistants: In scenarios such as intelligent assistants and voice announcements, it provides natural and fluent voice interaction and enhances the user experience.
-
Advertising production: It provides personalized speech synthesis for advertising production, supports multiple languages and emotional styles, and enhances the appeal of advertisements.
-
Education: In educational software and online courses, it provides vivid voice explanations to help students better understand and learn.
