What is Hertz-Dev
Hertz-Dev is an open-source audio model launched by Standard Intelligence, featuring an 850-million-parameter audio model designed specifically for real-time conversational AI. Hertz-Dev is characterized by ultra-low latency, with a theoretical latency of only 80 milliseconds and an actual latency of 120 milliseconds. The model allows developers and researchers to easily use advanced real-time conversational AI technology without massive hardware support. The broad application of Hertz-Dev is expected to drive the development of AI in areas such as customer support and smart homes, making interactions between humans and machines more natural.
Main features of Hertz-Dev
- Audio generation and processing: Hertz-Dev can process and generate audio signals, especially maintaining high-quality audio representations at low bitrates.
- Real-time interaction: The model is designed to achieve near-real-time interaction, with low-latency characteristics, theoretically 65 ms and in practical applications an average of 120 ms, suitable for real-time conversation.
- Audio autoencoding: Based on hertz-codec, the model can convert speech signals into low-bitrate latent representations and then decode them back into speech.
- Audio VAE learned prior: hertz-vae serves as a transformer decoder, providing a learned prior for the audio VAE and being able to predict encoded audio frames.
- Language model initialization: hertz-dev is partially initialized from the weights of a pretrained language model and trained on large amounts of data.
- Multi-task fine-tuning: As a foundation model, Hertz-Dev is fine-tuned to adapt to a variety of different tasks, such as speech recognition and speech synthesis.
- Streaming audio generation: The model supports streaming audio generation and can generate audio in a controllable and coherent manner.
Technical principles of Hertz-Dev
- Convolutional audio autoencoder (hertz-codec): Uses a convolutional neural network to encode speech signals into low-bitrate latent representations, then reconstructs the speech signals through a decoder.
- Transformer architecture: hertz-vae and hertz-dev are both based on the transformer architecture, a deep learning model that excels at processing sequence data.
- Latent space representation: The model uses latent space representations to encode and decode audio signals, supporting the model to work at low bitrates while maintaining audio quality.
- Gaussian mixture model: hertz-vae uses a Gaussian mixture model to predict the next encoded audio frame, providing fine-grained control over the audio generation process.
- Quantized information: The model uses quantized information as a semantic scaffold to guide the audio generation process and ensure that the generated audio is semantically coherent.
- Large-scale pretraining: hertz-dev is partially initialized from the weights of a pretrained language model, allowing the model to capture and simulate the distribution of the training data.
- Low-latency optimization: The model was designed with low-latency requirements in mind, reducing latency based on optimized model structure and computation process.
