What is FramePack
FramePack is an open-source AI video generation model from Stanford University. By compressing the context length of input frames, it solves the "forgetting" and "drift" problems in video generation, enabling the model to efficiently process large numbers of frames while maintaining low computational complexity. FramePack requires only 6GB of VRAM to run on an ordinary laptop and supports real-time generation of high-definition video, relying on anti-drift sampling technology to ensure video stability and coherence. FramePack provides flexible scheduling strategies, is suitable for a variety of application scenarios, lowers the hardware barrier for AI video generation, and promotes the democratization of video generation technology.
FramePack's Main Features
- Low VRAM Requirements: It requires only 6GB of VRAM to run, making it suitable for use on laptop GPUs.
- Efficient Frame Generation Capability: It generates thousands of frames at 30fps based on a 13B model.
- Fast Generation: On a personal RTX 4090 GPU, the generation speed is 2.5 seconds/frame (unoptimized) or 1.5 seconds/frame (optimized).
FramePack's Technical Principles
- Frame Context Packing: By changing the Transformer's Patchify kernel size, frames of different importance are compressed to different degrees. Key frames retain more detail (such as 1536 tokens), while secondary frames are greatly compressed (such as 192 tokens), greatly reducing VRAM usage while preserving important information. The importance of a frame is judged by its temporal distance from the target frame; input frames closer to the target frame are considered more important.
- Anti-Drift Sampling: It introduces a bidirectional memory method, allowing the model, when generating the current frame, to both reference the most recent frames and look back to the core features of the initial frame, avoiding drift.
- Flexible Scheduling Strategies:
- Geometric Compression: Frames are compressed according to a geometric progression, suitable for real-time generation scenarios.
- First-Frame Priority: In image-to-video tasks, the details of the first frame are prioritized, ensuring a high-quality starting point for the generated video.
- Symmetric Compression: All frames are processed in a balanced way, suitable for video generation scenarios that require stability and coherence.
- Constant Computational Complexity: Based on the above compression and scheduling strategies, FramePack achieves constant computational complexity; no matter how many frames are generated, computational resource consumption remains unchanged. This enables the model to efficiently handle long video generation tasks without significantly slowing down as the number of frames increases.
