What is FLUX Tools
FLUX Tools is a suite of model tools launched by Black Forest Labs that enhances the controllability and operability of the base text-to-image model FLUX.1. FLUX Tools includes FLUX.1 Fill (image inpainting and outpainting), FLUX.1 Depth (structural guidance based on depth maps), FLUX.1 Canny (structural guidance based on Canny edges), and FLUX.1 Redux (image blending and re-creation). Based on providing text descriptions and masks, the tools support users in precisely editing and extending real and generated images, enhancing image variation and reconstruction capabilities. FLUX Tools is released as openly accessible models in the FLUX.1 [dev] model series, and is used as a supplement to FLUX.1 [pro] in the BFL API.
Main features of FLUX Tools
- FLUX.1 Fill: Used for image inpainting and outpainting. Edits and extends real and generated images based on text descriptions and binary masks. Supports seamless editing, allowing modifications to blend naturally into the image.
- FLUX.1 Depth: Structural guidance based on depth maps extracted from input images and text prompts. Maintains precise control during image transformation, especially when re-texturing images.
- FLUX.1 Canny: Structural guidance based on Canny edges extracted from input images and text prompts. Suitable for precise detail adjustments.
- FLUX.1 Redux: An adapter that supports blending and re-creating input images and text prompts. Generates new versions of images with slight variations while preserving the core elements of the original image. Supports prompt-based image reconstruction and style transfer.
Technical principles of FLUX Tools
- Deep learning and neural networks: Uses deep learning models, especially convolutional neural networks (CNNs), to process and generate images. During model training, large amounts of data are used to learn the associations between image features and text descriptions.
- Structural guidance: Extracts structural information from images based on depth maps or Canny edges. Combined with text prompts, it guides the model to perform image editing and transformation while preserving the original structure.
- Text-to-image transformation: Based on natural language processing (NLP) technology, converts text descriptions into guidance signals for image editing. Combines image content and text descriptions to generate images that match the descriptions.
- Model optimization and inference efficiency: Optimizes the model to improve inference efficiency and respond quickly in practical applications. Uses model compression techniques (such as LoRA) to simplify the development process and improve model accessibility.
- Blending and reconstruction: Based on adapter technology, blends input images and text prompts to generate images with new features. Supports image reconstruction and style transfer, providing more diverse image outputs.

Application scenarios of FLUX Tools
- Digital art creation:Artists and designers create new digital artworks, quickly generating or modifying images based on text prompts to realize creative concepts.
- Game development:In game design, quickly generate or edit images of game environments, characters, and props to improve development efficiency.
- Film and video production:In film post-production, repair damaged parts of old films or create special effects to enhance visual effects.
- Advertising and marketing:Marketers quickly generate attractive advertising images, or customize visual content according to customer needs.
- Education and training:In the field of education, create teaching materials, such as simulated images of historical events, to help students better understand the learning content.
