On June 25, 2024, the New York-based AI life sciences and protein generation startupEvolutionaryScaleannounced it has raised over $142 million in seed round financing. This round was led by Nat Friedman & Daniel Gross and Lux Capital, with participation from Amazon, NVentures (NVIDIA's venture capital arm), and multiple angel investors.
The company plans to use the raised funds to further expand the capabilities of its models.
EvolutionaryScale is a frontier AI research lab and public benefit corporation founded in July 2023, dedicated to developing AI in the life sciences field. While working in Meta's FAIR (Fundamental AI Research) department, EvolutionaryScale's founding team built ESM1, widely recognized as the first protein large language model (LLM).
