What is Cobra
Cobra (Efficient Line Art COlorization with BRoAder References) is a manga line art colorization framework launched by Tsinghua University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Tencent ARC Lab, designed for high-precision, high-efficiency, and flexible industrial applications. The framework integrates over 200 reference images and uses Causal Sparse Attention and locally reusable positional encoding techniques to effectively manage long-context information, ensuring color consistency and identity preservation. Cobra supports color hints, allowing users to flexibly adjust the colorization results. Cobra's core architecture, Causal Sparse DiT, significantly improves inference speed and interactivity, meeting the needs for context consistency and fast colorization in manga production.
Cobra's Main Features
- High-precision line art colorization: Supports converting black-and-white line art into richly colored illustrations with consistent details.
- Efficient inference and interactivity: Improves inference speed to meet industrial-level demands for real-time performance and interactivity.
- Flexible color hint support: Users can adjust colors in specific regions based on color hints, enhancing the flexibility and personalization of colorization.
- Applicable to multiple application scenarios: Supports extension to tasks such as colorizing line art with shadows and coloring animated videos.
Cobra's Technical Principles
- Causal Sparse DiT architecture: Eliminates pairwise attention computation between reference images, significantly reducing computational complexity. Uses unidirectional causal attention and Key-Value caching to further reduce memory and computational costs. Based on dividing the line art image into multiple local regions, assigns independent positional encodings to each region, integrates any number of reference images, and does not alter the pretrained 2D positional encodings.
- Long-context reference management: Uses a large number of reference images to provide rich color information, and based on the causal sparse attention mechanism, ensures that the color information from reference images is efficiently transferred to the target line art, avoiding redundant computation.
- Line Art Guider: The Line Art Guider integrates the features of the line art image and color hints into the main branch, achieving precise control over the line art based on Self-Attention and supporting flexible application of color hints.
- Color hint integration: Users specify color adjustments in specific regions to colorize the results. Cobra limits the range of RGB value changes for color hint points, avoids sampling at edge intersections, reduces ambiguity, and improves the accuracy of user control.
