On April 5, 2024, the Palo Alto, California, USA-based startup developing AI foundation models that understand the physical world, Archetype AI , announced it has raised $13 million in seed funding. The round was led by Venrock, with participation from the Amazon Industrial Innovation Fund, Hitachi Ventures, Buckley Ventures, Plug and Play Ventures, and several angel investors.
Archetype AI was co-founded in 2023 by Ivan Poupyrev, Brandon Barbello, Leonardo Giusti, Jaime Lien, and Nicholas Gillian, and has launched Newton, a foundation model that understands the physical world, capable of combining multimodal temporal data (including signals from accelerometers, gyroscopes, radar, cameras, microphones, thermometers, and other environmental sensors) with natural language to unlock real-time insights about the physical world.
Archetype AI's early customers include Infineon and Fortune Global 500 brands across automotive, consumer electronics, construction, logistics, and retail, and Archetype AI's technology allows any user to ask open-ended questions about the physical environment and take further action.
