用途
在选择性较高的期刊，编辑往往在几分钟内决定是否将论文送审。投稿附信是作者唯一的直接推介机会：说明为什么该刊读者现在需要这项结果。该技能用于撰写投稿附信、预投稿咨询、转投请求，以及审稿人推荐或回避名单，帮助稿件通过编辑初筛。
写作前准备
需要收集：期刊的范围/宗旨声明与文章类型；用一句话概括主要发现及其关键数字；1-3 篇该刊近期发表的、本文所基于或挑战的论文；期刊要求的各项声明（参见期刊指南）。
结构（一页）
- 开头：稿件标题、文章类型、期刊。一句话。
- 发现及其重要性，2-4 句：问题、发现（含关键数字）、改变了什么。面向聪明但非本领域的编辑撰写。
- 为什么投这个期刊：联系该刊读者群与范围，若延伸或推翻了该刊近期论文则加以引用。避免奉承。
- 与既往工作相比新在哪里：一到两句，具体（更大队列、首个因果证据、快 10 倍、新机制）。
- 期刊要求的声明：未在他处审议、全体作者同意、预印本服务器与 DOI（若已发布）、利益冲突、在审的相关稿件、数据可用性。
- 审稿人：推荐审稿人（姓名、机构、邮箱、专长，无利益冲突：非近期合著者或同机构）。回避审稿人需附简短、专业的理由。
- 由通讯作者署名并附联系方式。

变体
- 预投稿咨询（Nature Portfolio、PLOS Biology、Cell Press 等）：摘要 + 约 200 词、聚焦重要性的推介。编辑回复“会考虑”或“不适合”。
- 拒稿后转投：提及前一期刊与决定。若审稿意见可转移，概述如何处理。
- 拒稿重投（reject-and-resubmit）后的重新投稿：列出主要修改并链接到完整的审稿回复（参见 rebuttal-and-response-to-reviewers）。
- 申诉：仅用于审稿人明显错误或对核心要点误解的情况。要事实、简短、具体，并提供额外证据。
禁忌
- 不要重复摘要，或使用夸张用语（“groundbreaking”“paradigm-shifting”）。
- 不要超出稿件范围过度声称，或埋没必需声明。
- 不要推荐有利益冲突的审稿人、朋友或编造的联系人。这属于研究不端行为。
- 除非期刊要求更多，不要超过一页。
