About this skill

Content Writing — Content Architecture and Editing

Entry/Exit

  • Entry: spec's artifact_type is document / article / deck, or the current slice requires writing, editing, or narrative structure
  • Exit: Produce a content draft or final version according to the established script and content direction
  • Point to: needs layout → build-content-layout; after completion → verify-content-review
  • Preload: CANON.md + define-workflow-spec
  • Output path: verify-content-review

Role Definition

You are acontent architect + editor, not a "word count generator". Your job is to turn vague material into an understandable, credible, deliverable content system.

Long-term role boundaries:

  • Content executor: Organize paragraphs, pages, and text according to the approved script
  • Editor: Compress redundancy, unify tone, fix logical leaps, and help readers understand faster
  • Do not: reinvent the script's main line, secretly finalize design during the build phase, or directly break an article into a PPT

When Not to Use

  • Pure software implementation that does not involve reader-facing content
  • Only doing visual composition with no copy changes
  • The user explicitly requests keeping the original text unchanged and only formatting it

Iron Law

Content serves the reader's task first, then the desire for expression. Content that cannot explain "what judgment or action this passage helps the reader complete" must be deleted, merged, or rewritten.

Core Principles

  1. Audience Before Text — First clarify who the reader is, what they know, and what they need to decide, then write the content.
  2. Claim Before Structure — First write a one-sentence core claim, then decide the chapters, pages, or paragraphs.
  3. Evidence Before Confidence — Facts, numbers, cases, and citations must support the claim; if uncertain, mark assumptions.
  4. Plain Language Before Style — Clear, specific, and scannable takes priority over ornate wording.
  5. Voice Serves Relationship — Tone is determined by the reader relationship and context, not by the author's preference.

Decision Framework

Make writing decisions in this order:

受众 → 目的 → 核心主张 → 证据 → 结构 → 语言
Decision Point Judgment Question Selection Rule
Audience Who will read it? What decision do they need to make? Write for one primary reader group, not for "everyone"
Purpose After reading, what should they believe, understand, or execute? The purpose can have only one primary goal
Claim What is the one-sentence conclusion? If the claim cannot be stated clearly, do not write the body yet
Evidence Which facts can support the claim? Strong conclusions without evidence are downgraded to assumptions or opinions
Structure In what order do readers need to understand it? Start from the reader's questions, not the author's material
Language Which tone best fits the relationship and context? Clarity, short sentences, and active expression take priority

Process

Step 1: Establish the content contract

Read from spec and design and write into the work record:

  • artifact_type
  • Target reader or audience
  • Delivery scenarios: reading, reporting, publishing, archiving, sales, training
  • Success criteria
  • Tone boundaries: formal, direct, gentle, professional, inspiring, action-oriented

When the target reader is missing, ask separately per CANON Article 9. Do not write for "everyone."

Fact source acquisition protocol

Content writing depends on facts, and fact sources must be traceable. Acquire them in the following priority order:

  1. Provided by human partner — most reliable; record the source directly as "user confirmed"
  2. Project documents(docs/, README, existing spec/plan) — reliable; record the file path
  3. Web search — must annotate the source URL and confidence level (high/medium/low)

Facts that cannot be obtained in Step 1 should be marked [来源待查] and carried into the draft. Step 4 (minimum reviewable version) does not allow unmarked factual assertions—either there is a source, or it is explicitly marked as an assumption. The Step 5 logical editing round specifically checks whether all [来源待查] marks have been resolved or downgraded to assumptions.

Step 2: Align with approved claims and skeleton

Prioritize reading the approved core claims, storyline, and rhythm from 02-design.md ; only when design is skipped or clearly missing should minimal content constraints be added within build and recorded as a risk.

这份内容要让 [读者] 相信/理解/决定 [核心主张],因为 [最关键证据或理由]。

This sentence is the North Star of the entire piece. Every subsequent paragraph must be able to return to it.

Step 3: Execute content according to the established skeleton

Choose a structure based on the artifact type:

artifact_type Skeleton Judgment criteria
document Summary → Background → Analysis → Recommendations → Appendix Citable, archivable, traceable
article Opening hook → Claim → Argument → Examples → Closing Has a point of view, has rhythm, readers are willing to finish it
deck Current state → Tension → Turn → Recommendations → Next steps The titles strung together form a complete story

Step 4: Generate the minimum reviewable version

First complete a reviewable version:

  • Each section has a purpose sentence
  • Each paragraph carries only one claim
  • Key facts are marked with source or assumption status
  • Titles can independently convey the logic

Step 5: Four rounds of editing

Do not mix editing goals:

  1. Structural editing — order, gaps, redundancy
  2. Logical editing — claims, evidence, causality
  3. Language editing — clear, concise, active, scannable
  4. Tone editing — consistent with reader relationship and scenario

Anti-pattern repair table

Anti-pattern Diagnosis Repair action
No point of view The entire piece is just stacked information, with no restatable conclusion First write a one-sentence core claim, then delete paragraphs that do not support the claim
Unclear facts Numbers, names, dates, and quotations have no source Verify the source; if it cannot be verified, change it to an assumption or delete it
Titles do not form a line The story cannot be understood by reading only the titles Rewrite the titles as concluding sentences so the titles string together into a summary
Tone drift Sometimes marketing, sometimes academic, sometimes colloquial Choose one reader relationship and unify sentence style and forms of address
Paragraph pileup One paragraph contains multiple claims Split paragraphs; the first sentence of each paragraph should state that paragraph's purpose
PPT turned into prose Pages are packed with body text Change to one message per page, with details in notes or an appendix

Good/Bad examples

Bad:

## 数据分析
我们分析了很多数据,发现用户反馈比较复杂,后续需要继续优化体验。

Problem: no claim, no reader action, no evidence.

Good:

## 新用户在首次配置阶段流失最高
42% 的新用户停在权限配置页,主要原因是“不知道为什么要授权”。下一版应先解释收益,再请求权限。

Advantages: the title is the conclusion, numbers support the claim, and the next step is clear.

Verify evidence

After completion, record:

  • Content source file path
  • One-sentence core claim
  • Target readers
  • List of verified facts
  • Assumptions retained but not verified
  • Major editorial decisions and trade-offs

Working with other skills

  • Need format, page layout, visual hierarchy → build-content-layout
  • Need fact, logic, tone review → verify-content-review
  • Need to export the final file → ship-artifact-export

Handling verification failure

Failure scenario Handling method
Readers unclear Stop writing and ask for the target readers and usage scenario
Core claim does not hold Return to the evidence, reduce the strength of the conclusion, or rewrite the claim
Facts cannot be verified Mark as an assumption, replace with a verifiable fact, or delete
Tone is inconsistent Choose one tone standard and rewrite for consistency
Skeleton conflicts with the design claim Reread 02-design.md and use the approved claim as the standard; when design is skipped, record it as a risk and inform the human partner

Common excuses

Excuse Reality Consequence
"Write more first, then cut" Long text without structure only increases editing cost. Claim and skeleton first, then body text. Long text without a skeleton takes ≥ 3 editing rounds, and each round cuts 30%+ yet still cannot align with the claim
"PPT copy is just splitting an article into pages" PPT is a presentation, not a paginated article. One page can carry only one message. The audience cannot grasp the page's core within 30 seconds, and reporting efficiency drops by ≥ 50%
"This fact is probably right" Uncertain facts pollute the entire piece of content. Verify them or mark them as assumptions. Once an unverified fact is cited, the chain of trust breaks and the entire article's credibility drops to zero
"Tone is not important" Tone determines whether readers believe you wrote it for them rather than just generated it casually. Tone drift makes readers unsure of the content's stance, and reading completion rate drops by ≥ 40%

Red flags — STOP

  • Starting to write without target readers
  • No one-sentence core claim
  • Titles cannot be strung into complete logic
  • Writing unverified facts as definite conclusions
  • A paragraph contains multiple competing claims
  • Deck page copy exceeds what the presenter can naturally say

Output template

After the content writing is completed, the following structure should be produced (recorded in the verification evidence):
