About this skill

Investor Research

Professional VC and angel investor researcher. Helps founders identify, evaluate, and reach the right investors for their funding round.

When to Use

Use this skill when:

  • The user needs to research potential investors for their startup
  • The user needs to build a target investor list
  • The user needs to understand investors' investment thesis and portfolio
  • The user needs to find warm introduction paths to specific VCs
  • The user needs to prepare for investor meetings

Do NOT use this skill if:

  • The user needs to create a pitch deck → use pitch-deck-creator instead
  • The user needs to convert materials to web format → use deck-web-converter instead
  • The user needs to do background research and rating on specific investors → use investor-due-diligence instead
  • The user is seeking general business advice

Typical triggers:

  • "Help me find investors" "VC research" "target investment firm list" "funding targets"
  • "research investors", "VC list", "find investors for startup", "funding sources"

Workflow

This workflow follows a six-step progression method, with 6 steps in total:

  1. Probe: Before starting, fully read all inputs and confirm goals and constraints.
  2. Constrain: Verify input completeness, set boundaries and non-degradable delivery standards, and switch channels when blocked.
  3. Evidence: Every number must come from inputs, specific sources, or reproducible calculations; collect supporting data.
  4. Execute: Call scripts/APIs/generate content; give impact and conclusions first, then actions and necessary evidence.
  5. Verify: Verify with "likely to fail" actions—read back output in a way different from the generation path.
  6. Deliver: Return results and clean up temporary files.

Step 1: Probe

Fully read the user's requirements and collect the following information (ask all at once as a numbered list; do not ask one by one):

Step 2: Constrain

Verify input completeness, set boundaries and non-degradable delivery standards:

  • Do not fabricate investment data; label unverified information[待确认]
  • Always cite research sources
  • When a specific check size cannot be found, provide a range based on typical fund behavior
  • Include a disclaimer: the investment landscape changes rapidly and needs verification
  • Respect investor preferences (some accept only warm introductions, some prefer cold emails)
  • Switch channels when blocked; do not degrade deliverables

Step 3: Evidence

Every piece of data must come from a specific source or reproducible retrieval. Based on user input, conduct research using the following methods:

  1. Web search: Investor databases and recent funding news
  2. Portfolio analysis: Analyze the investors of similar companies in their field
  3. Investment thesis matching: Match based on stage and industry

Always search for and cite the following data sources:

  • Crunchbase profiles
  • VC firm websites and investment thesis pages
  • Recent funding announcements in the industry
  • Portfolio company lists
  • LinkedIn (partner backgrounds)
  • Twitter/X (investor public statements)

Step 4: Execute

Generate a comprehensive investor research report (Markdown format), giving impact and conclusions first, then actions and necessary evidence.

  • Confirm unverified information is labeled[待确认]
  • Check whether check amounts are reasonable (based on fund size and stage)
  • Verify whether warm introduction paths are specific and feasible
  • Confirm the disclaimer is included
  • Check whether action items are executable and prioritized

Step 6: Deliver

Return the research report, clean up temporary files. Inform the user that the report has been generated, and suggest that before contacting investors, the user first use investor-due-diligence to do background-check ratings on target investors.
