About this skill

Artifact Open Science

Prepare research artifacts that reviewers and future researchers can actually run, inspect, and cite. Use this for artifact evaluation, reproducibility badges, camera-ready packages, and public release.

Read First

  • references/artifact-open-science-policy.md
  • references/repository-contract.md
  • references/ethics-data-governance.md
  • references/workflow-stage-contracts.md

Workflow

  1. Identify artifact type: code, dataset, benchmark, model, UI, pipeline, reproduction package, or supplementary material.
  2. Define what claims the artifact supports.
  3. Create or update artifacts/artifact-checklist.md.
  4. Choose target badge path when relevant: Artifacts Available, Artifacts Evaluated Functional, Artifacts Evaluated Reusable, Results Reproduced, or Results Replicated.
  5. Ensure install/run instructions are fresh, minimal, and tested.
  6. Separate public release files from private data, credentials, caches, and large local outputs.
  7. Add license, citation, expected runtime, hardware, seed/config, and known limitations.
  8. Link artifact claims to experiments/, repro_outputs/, sources/, sota/, and wiki/.
  9. Update artifacts/badge-evidence-ledger.csv with badge target, evidence path, linked claim or result ID, command or procedure, validation status, and checked date.
  10. For paper-specific releases, run npm run workflow:release and inspect paper_releases/release-ledger.csv, source maps, locks, checksums, and active compliance profiles.

Project Quality

Artifact work must preserve the clean project zones: release candidates stay in artifacts/, trusted reproduction evidence in repro_outputs/, final paper-facing exports in outputs/, and exploratory or diagnostic material in explore_outputs/ or debug_outputs/. Do not mix public release files with private data, credentials, caches, bulky local outputs, or unvalidated results.

Minimum Artifact Standard

  • one-command smoke test or clear manual path
  • environment file or dependency list
  • data access/provenance instructions
  • expected outputs
  • result comparison against paper claims
  • ethical and license constraints
  • badge-specific evidence for ACM artifact review when targeting ACM-style venues

Do Not

  • Release sensitive or license-restricted data without governance notes.
  • Ship a notebook-only artifact when a script/CLI is expected.
  • Claim reproducibility if only exploratory outputs are available.

Review Loop And Handoff

Review artifact availability, functionality, reusability, reproduction claims, metadata, licenses, commands, and release evidence. Fix and re-review until badge and release claims have no blocking gaps. Handoff release-specific work to paper-release and profile checks to badge-compliance-profiles.
