The highest level of removing AI flavor."AI flavor" is essentially a lack of the human sense of loss of control—AI writes like a manual (everything explained, everything reasonable, everything closed-loop, everything neutral); a person writes like an emotional record (there is loss of control, obsession, omission, bias).
When to use
- The draft "reads like AI / like a manual / too smooth and neat / emotions too even / characters too normal / no human flavor"
- The surface rhetoric has all been cleaned up (
desloppassed), but it still "falls a bit short" - Want to make the writing feel more like something a real person wrote—not changing words, but addinga sense of loss of control
and
deslopdivision of labor: deslop treatsthe surface(rhetoric/punctuation/symbols/repetition/extreme words); this skill treatsthe deep level(emotion/conflict/characters/not closing the loop/personal bias). Using both together is the most thorough.
Workflow
A. Diagnosis (find "too AI" spots by the 5 feelings)
Scan the draft, point to paragraphs and mark (tune references/human-texture.md):
- Emotions too even: everyone is reacting reasonably; there is no truly out-of-control/extreme/obsessive explosion point.
- Conflict too clean: misunderstanding→explanation→resolution; it lacks a chain that "rolls dirtier and dirtier."
- Sentences too smooth: no variation in length, sentence breaks, pauses, incomplete expressions → uneven sentence length + pause punctuation; see details in
references/sentence-rhythm.md。 - Characters too normal: motives are reasonable but not extreme; there is no irrationality of "knowing it's wrong but doing it anyway."
- Too neutral: no bias, emotional judgment, or sense of personal bias.
B. Inject human flavor (3 techniques, add at key points)
- Irrational behavior: make characters do things that are "logically shouldn't, emotionally must" (betting even when knowing they'll lose, turning hostile on the spot without explaining, suddenly making an extreme choice).
- Incomplete emotional expression: leave gaps for what is not said out loud ("He didn't finish that sentence." "She suddenly didn't want to explain." "At that moment he regretted it a little, but didn't stop.").
- Logic not fully closed-loop: don't explain secondary matters to the end, don't tie up secondary relationships completely. Give "original sentence/original paragraph → revised" comparisons, explaining which type was added.
Principles
- Accentuate without going crazy: place 1–2 loss-of-control points at key spots, not irrationality throughout the whole piece.
- Don't sacrifice satisfaction and hooks: Tomato still needs pacing; the sense of loss of control makes the satisfaction more believable and the characters stand more firmly.
- Not closing the loop ≠ bad ending: major main-plot pits must be recovered; leave blank only small emotional/relationship things.
- One-sentence self-check:Does this passage read like a manual, or like a person recording emotions?
Counterexample comparison
- ❌ (too clean) "She misunderstood him, he explained clearly, and the two made up."
- ✅ (the more you scroll, the dirtier it gets) "She hung up before he could finish. He wanted to call again, his finger hovering over the screen, then he put it down—never mind, what was there to explain. The next day, her best friend sent that photo to the group chat."
Next step
After adding human touch → deslop tighten the surface, review follow-up visit, emotion reinforce key emotions.
