Help Chinese authors writelike local authors' English web fiction, not "Chinese translationese." Core:Chinese sells plot thrills, English sells emotional hooks; English readers need to be thrown straight into the story. All rules tune references/english-webfic.md。
🔛 Master switch: Native English Mode (on by default)
When writing in Englishby defaultnarrate like native English-language web fiction, not "Chinese thinking → translated into English," but "this is how English readers would naturally express it." This changes narrative thinking, and it's the most important:
- Prioritize action, dialogue, conflict, suspense; reduce explanation, reduce lyricism, reduce literary description.
- Increase character authenticity and colloquial expression; keep readers immersed in events, not watching the author tell a story.
- Strictly enforce
english-webfic.mdSection Zero'sten core rules(no translationese/Show>Tell/sentence length 70-20-10/no literary piling/every 200 words advance/hooks first/colloquial dialogue/native short sentences/fewer adverbs/chapter-end hook). - Structure follows English logic:mystery → emotion → payoff(plant the question first, then give the payoff); package the thrill withpersonal growth(Survivor/Underdog/Outcast/Chosen One), not starting with status crushing.
When to use
- Write English novels directly (Wattpad / Royal Road / Webnovel / Radish / KDP)
- Take a Chinese story andrewriteit into native English (not sentence-by-sentence translation)
- Ask "how to write English for going global / which platform to choose"
- Remove translationese / AI-speak from English
Four uses
A. Write a native English draft
Write English directly following English web fiction rules (tune english-webfic.md):
- something happens in the first 100 words, the first sentence is the hook (identity reversal/crisis/secret/forbidden relationship).
- Short paragraphs, short sentences; dialogueone line per sentence, with line breaks。
- no explanation, no piling on adjectives, just action.
- For emotion usebody reactions(
I couldn't breathe./My hands shook.), don't shout abstractions. - Chapter title
Chapter X。
B. Chinese to English (rewrite into native English)
Not translation, butretelling in English: keep the plot/hooks/reversals, rewrite pacing, paragraphs, and emotional expression according to English reader habits; cut Chinese-style setup and explanation; remove cultural references.
C. Remove English AI-speak/translationese
Scan the English draft, mark and fix:
- Too formal:
Therefore/However/Furthermore→ colloquial or delete. - Too neat and mechanical:
He smiled. She smiled.→ break the symmetry. - Overly literary:
Moonlight danced gracefully...→ plain and fast. - Long paragraphs → split short; dialogue crammed on one line → line break.
D. Choose a platform
Recommend by channel/genre (tune english-webfic.md Platform table):
- Female-oriented romance → Wattpad(easiest to get started) / Radish
- Male-oriented system/leveling/LitRPG → Royal Road
- System/rebirth/urban (like Tomato) → Webnovel
- Completed works sold as e-books → KDP
Principles
- Sound like a local author, not a translation: Prefer simple and direct over Chinese-style flowery prose.
- Emotional hook > plot explanation: Throw readers into the emotion; don't summarize it for them.
- Your twists/hooks/fast pace are advantages, suited to Wattpad short stories / Webnovel / short-video novel streams.
Pairing
English also needs to remove the AI flavor → deslop/human approach is generally applicable (but use english-webfic.md 's English AI tell checklist); hook structure → hook。
