Credential Configuration
API keys, tokens, and cookies are uniformly recommended to be written in the repository root directory .env(refer to .env.example), and loaded by the runtime or user as environment variables with the same names before execution. Scripts still only read credentials from environment variables or explicit CLI parameters; do not write real keys into skill payloads, reports, logs, or commits.
This skill is for agents to scrape public hotspot signals. Only use free, registration-free, API-key-free, non-cryptocurrency data sources; do not ask users to provide tokens, cookies, or API keys, and do not use commercial paid interfaces.
Hard Rules
- Processing queries about cryptocurrency, virtual currency, blockchain, Web3, NFT, DeFi, exchanges, and mining/wallets in the cryptocurrency context is prohibited.
- If a user requests cryptocurrency-related hotspots, directly state that this skill does not cover that topic and do not run scripts.
- Do not use GitHub code search, GitHub GraphQL, Stack Exchange key, BigQuery, YouTube API, Twitter/X API, TikHub, Reddit OAuth, or any method requiring registration of a key/token/cookie.
- Do not use resources that are inaccessible, require login, require payment, or are only available under commercial plans; when encountering newly added resources, first confirm they are accessible and comply with the above restrictions.
- API scripts and browser-use have no priority; they can be mixed within the same task.
- Baidu Index and Weibo Hot Search/Weibo Index only use content visible on public web pages; do not enter or guide use of paid commercial features.
- Scripts return standard JSON; cite
items[].urlor page links opened by browser-use as evidence.
Dependencies
On first run or when a script prompts that a library is missing, use this skill's dependency list to install into the current Python environment:
python3 -m pip install -r requirements.txt
Do not automatically install dependencies inside scripts. If installation fails, the network is unavailable, or a package is unavailable, stop using the corresponding script and switch to browser-use/public web search, explaining the missing dependency.
Resource Selection
| Scenario | API Script | browser-use Entry | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Encyclopedia page attention, auxiliary indicator of public attention | scripts/wikimedia_pageviews.py |
https://doc.wikimedia.org/generated-data-platform/aqs/analytics-api/ |
Wikimedia Pageviews requires User-Agent |
| Open source project popularity, engineering activity, developer ecosystem | scripts/github_public_search.py |
https://github.com/search |
Only search public repositories and Issues; do not search code |
| Technical question popularity, developer demand | scripts/stackexchange_search.py |
https://stackexchange.com/search |
Defaults to Stack Overflow, can specify --site |
| Startup and tech community discussion hot lists | scripts/hackernews_hotspots.py |
https://news.ycombinator.com/ |
The official API does not support server-side search; the script filters locally |
| Index trends, search popularity, geography, audience profiles, demand changes | None | https://index.baidu.com/ |
Baidu Index; web pages are available, only use free visible content |
| Social media public opinion, hotspots, brand voice, event monitoring | None | https://s.weibo.com/top/summary |
Weibo Hot Search/Weibo Index; web pages are available, only use free visible content |
Common Commands
The following scripts/... paths are relative to this skill directory; if the current working directory is different, first resolve them to absolute paths:
python3 scripts/wikimedia_pageviews.py article "Artificial intelligence" --start 2026-05-01 --end 2026-05-17
python3 scripts/wikimedia_pageviews.py top --date 2026-05-17 --project en.wikipedia.org --limit 20
python3 scripts/github_public_search.py "llm agents" --type repositories --sort stars --limit 10
python3 scripts/github_public_search.py "agent framework bug" --type issues --sort comments --limit 10
python3 scripts/stackexchange_search.py "python asyncio" --site stackoverflow --sort votes --limit 10
python3 scripts/hackernews_hotspots.py --kind top --limit 10
python3 scripts/hackernews_hotspots.py --kind best --query "AI agents" --scan 150 --limit 10
wikimedia_pageviews.py By default uses a User-Agent with the project URL; if the runtime environment requires customization, you can set WIKIMEDIA_USER_AGENT, this is not an API key.
Usage Strategy
- News hotspots: use browser-use to open news results pages, authoritative media pages, or public aggregation pages for cross-checking; when necessary, use Wikimedia pageviews to verify public attention.
- Technology/developer hotspots: combine GitHub public repositories, GitHub Issues, Stack Exchange, and Hacker News, and you may use browser-use to open results pages to view context; do not call code search that requires a token.
- Public attention trends: for known entities or event titles, run Wikimedia
article; to find objects of widespread attention that day, runtop, and you may also use browser-use to open encyclopedia pages to verify the meaning of entities. - Chinese index trends: use browser-use to open Baidu Index and view search popularity, regions, audience profiles, and demand changes; record only information visible on the free web pages.
- Chinese social media public opinion: use browser-use to open Weibo Hot Search/Weibo Index and view hotspots, brand voice, and event monitoring clues; record only information visible on the free web pages.
- HN keyword search is only "local filtering after the hot list"; if there are few results, increase
--scan, and do not switch to unofficial or paid search APIs. - When multi-source results conflict, prioritize reporting that "the signals from each source differ"; do not present a single platform's popularity as a whole-network trend.
Output Conventions
Script output:
{
"success": true,
"query": "...",
"provider": "wikimedia-pageviews|github-public|stackexchange|hackernews",
"items": [
{"title": "...", "url": "...", "snippet": "..."}
],
"error": null
}
When success=false and the error message is a cryptocurrency restriction, stop processing that request.
