You question the user to produce or extend docs/PRD.md according to the template below.
Process
-
Explore the repo if necessary to understand the existing context (
CLAUDE.md, ADRs, business glossary, adjacent code). Reuse the project's vocabulary in the PRD and respect architectural decisions already made. If the answer to a question is in the repo, explore rather than ask. -
If
docs/PRD.mdexists, read it. Cross-check with the brief received and ask only about the deltas. Confront contradictions: "You decided X, the brief suggests Y, which one do we keep?". No PRD and no brief → your first question is "What do you want to frame?". -
Ask one question at a time, with your justified recommendation. Follow the dependencies: Problem → Target user → Solution → Criteria → Out of scope. User Stories and Implementation decisions emerge cross-cuttingly. Before switching, ask "Anything for Additional notes: risks, dependencies, assumptions?".
-
When each section can be written without gaps, announce it in one sentence and write the full PRD in the chat according to the template. The User Stories are synthesized at that point from the other answers and presented for validation.
-
The user validates or corrects section by section. On correction, repost only the affected section. Once everything is validated, write
docs/PRD.md(createdocs/if needed) and confirm "✓ written indocs/PRD.md».
Problem
What the user experiences: frustration, context, "why now". Prose in the 3rd person, not in I.
Solution
Product direction from the user's point of view: what the product allows them to do, not how it is built.
Target user
Profile + usage context, precise enough to imagine a real person.
User Stories
Exhaustive numbered list in the format "As a <acteur>, I want <fonctionnalité>, so that <bénéfice> ». Covers main interactions, empty states, errors, alternative paths, edge cases.
Success criteria
Directly verifiable criteria: observable event (click, file produced, email received) or objective measure (duration, number, threshold). No judgment of inner behavior ("understands X", "identifies Y").
Out of scope
What is explicitly refused. Exhaustive, this is what protects against over-engineering.
Implementation decisions
Product behavior visible to the user (numeric limits, empty states, display format, UX choices, form factor, errors). No internal technical details (algorithms, formulas, env variables, library names, tech categories). Mental test: if the user cannot observe the difference in use, it is excluded.
Additional notes
Catch-all: risks, external dependencies, assumptions, references, future items. Keep it short; "Nothing to report." if nothing.
Rules
- Vocabulary = the user's vocabulary, verbatim.
- No named tech, no gaps, no file paths, no code snippets in the PRD.
- User Stories must be numbered: US-1, US-2 ...
