About this skill

LCS Task Slicer Skill

Shared Coding Contract

  • Refer to Shared Coding Workflow Contract in ../lcs-shared/contract.md for folder conventions, Handoff format, and token optimization.

Purpose

  • Convert srs.md when present, otherwise prd-enhanced.md (or prd.md), into individual executable task files (task-001.md, task-002.md, etc.) under .lcs/work-items/{timestamp}-{slug-work-item}/task/.
  • Ensure tasks are small, dependency-aware, and session-friendly (<2 hours human time or one agent session).

Trigger

  • Activate when user requests to "slice prd", "break down prd", "slice prd-enhanced.md", "create tasks", or similar.

Trigger

Activate when user requests related to this skill's purpose. See description field in YAML frontmatter for trigger phrases.

Behavior Checklist

OKF Frontmatter & Writing Safety

  • When creating task-coverage.md and task-###.md files, include YAML frontmatter following the schema in ../lcs-shared/contract.md with artifact_type: task or artifact_type: task_coverage.
  • Follow the Artifact Writing Safety rules in contract.md.
  • One-file-per-task write strategy: Write task-coverage.md first (one file), then write each task-###.md one at a time. Do not write more than one task file per response.
  • Generate all task content during planning, then write one file per response.
  1. Gather Context:

    • Read .lcs/state.md to identify the active work-item directory: .lcs/work-items/{timestamp}-{slug-work-item}/.
    • Read source bundle:
      • prd-enhanced.md (fallback to prd.md if enhanced version is missing)
      • srs.md if present
      • tests.md if present
      • api.md if present
      • db.md if present
      • traceability.md if present
    • If prd-enhanced.md exists but was not read, stop and report a source conflict.
    • If srs.md exists, use SRS IDs (FR-###, BR-###, VR-###, EC-###, AC-###) as the primary task slicing source instead of PRD prose.
    • If traceability.md exists and contains an ## Unresolved Sources section with any unresolved SRC-###, DO NOT proceed with slicing. Report the unresolved sources as a slicing blocker and stop. Every SRC-### must be decomposed or explicitly resolved before tasks are written.
    • Verify PRD has clear acceptance criteria and test strategy. If missing or weak, suggest running lcs-prd-reviewer first.
  2. Draft Tracer-Bullet Vertical Slices:

    • Break the plan into tracer bullet tasks. Each task must be a thin vertical slice cutting through all integration layers end-to-end (schema, API, UI, tests), NOT a horizontal slice of one layer.
    • Slices should deliver a narrow but COMPLETE path that is demoable/verifiable.
    • Classify tasks into:
      • AFK (Away From Keyboard): Can be fully implemented and merged by autonomous agents.
      • HITL (Human In The Loop): Requires human interaction, architectural decisions, or design reviews. Prefer AFK over HITL.
  3. Quiz/Confirm with the User:

    • Present the proposed breakdown to the user as a numbered list:
      • Title: Short descriptive name
      • Type: AFK / HITL
      • Blocked by: Which other tasks must complete first
      • User stories covered: Associated stories (if any)
    • Ask the user:
      • Does the granularity feel right (too coarse / too fine)?
      • Are the dependency relationships correct?
      • Should any slices be merged or split further?
      • Are the correct slices marked as HITL and AFK?
    • Iterate and refine based on feedback until the user approves.
  4. Create Task Files:

    • Create the output directory: .lcs/work-items/{timestamp}-{slug-work-item}/task/ if it does not exist.
    • Write each approved task into .lcs/work-items/{timestamp}-{slug-work-item}/task/task-###.md (sequential 3-digit number starting at 001).
    • Every task must include Source coverage: Source IDs, Requirement IDs, Acceptance Criteria IDs, and Test IDs. If a task cannot map to upstream IDs, do not write it as executable; mark it as a slicing gap.
    • After writing all task files, verify the Task Coverage Matrix covers every SRC-### from the Source Requirement Ledger / traceability. Any uncovered SRC-### must appear under ## Gaps and be reported as a blocking risk in the Handoff.
  5. Generate Task Coverage Matrix:

    • Create or update .lcs/work-items/{timestamp}-{slug-work-item}/task-coverage.md.
    • Map every SRC-###, FR-###, BR-###, VR-###, EC-###, AC-###, and TEST-### to at least one task where applicable.
    • Flag uncovered IDs under ## Gaps.
  6. Update State & Handoff:

    • Update .lcs/state.md with:
      • current_phase: tasks
      • work_items[state.current_work].phase = tasks
      • work_items[state.current_work].updated_at = <current-ISO-timestamp>
      • timestamp: <current-ISO-timestamp>
    • Output the structured task list summary.
    • End with a Handoff pointing to the next logical step (e.g. lcs-task-executor and task-001.md).

Prompt Templates

  • Starter: "Slice prd-enhanced.md menjadi task-###.md"
  • Slicing rule: "Prefer thin tracer-bullet vertical slices that take <2 hours or one agent session. Clearly partition AFK vs HITL slices."

Task File Structure Each task-###.md must adhere to this exact structure:

status: pending
tags: [task, implementation]
summary: "{Brief description of what this task implements}"
source: "srs.md"
related: ["task-coverage.md"]
blocked_by: <TASK-### or None>

## Blocking Edges & Expand-Contract Pattern

- **Blocking Edges:** Every task file MUST include `blocked_by` in YAML frontmatter. Work the frontier (unblocked tasks first).

- **Wide Refactors (Expand-Contract):** If a task is a mechanical change with massive blast radius (e.g., rename column):

  1. *Expand:* Add new form beside old (Task 1).

  2. *Migrate:* Move call sites in batches (Tasks 2..N).

  3. *Contract:* Delete old form (Task N+1).

Do NOT force wide refactors into vertical tracer bullets.
