About this skill

Zhihuiya Utility Patent Image Search

This skill guides you on how to perform image-based patent similarity searches using the Zhihuiya patent database, helping users identify potentially similar utility model patents. This skill supports utility model patents only; for design patents use linkfox-zhihuiya-patent-image-search.

Core Concepts

Patent Image Search uses visual AI models to compare a given product or design image against a global patent image database. It returns a ranked list of similar patents, enabling users to evaluate infringement risks or conduct prior-art research.

This skill supports utility model patents only:

Type Code Description
Utility Model Patent U Protects the functional shape/structure of a product

Search models for utility model patents:

Model ID Strategy Recommendation
3 Match Shape Shape-only comparison
4 Match Shape/Pattern/Color Recommended for utility model patents (default)

Design patents (model 1/2) are not supported by this skill. Use linkfox-zhihuiya-patent-image-search instead.

Scoring logic: A higher score value means greater visual similarity. When presenting results, sort by score in descending order (highest similarity first) so users can prioritize the most relevant patents for review.

How to call

  • API endpoint:POST /zhihuiya/patentImageSearch(For full parameters/responses/error codes, see references/api.md)
  • Python script:python scripts/zhihuiya_patent_image_search.py '<JSON 参数>' [--inline]
  • Cost constraints: This tool consumes compute; by default, the same parameter combination in the same session is called only once, and the script has a 24h local cache. On failure/empty results, do not automatically try different keywords, paginate, or change the postal code to probe continuously; if you need to continue searching, first explain to the user that additional consumption will be incurred.

Output strategy (script default behavior):

  • Alwayswrite the full response to <cwd>/linkfox/<YYYY-MM-DD>/<session>/data/linkfox-zhihuiya-utility-patent-image-search-<timestamp>.json(<cwd> is the working directory when the script is executed, which in Claude Code is the current project directory;<session> is taken from the environment variable SESSION_ID, automatically aggregated according to the user's task;writing to /tmp is prohibited, and an error is reported if the current directory is not writable)
  • Response body ≤ 8 KB: after writing to disk, print the full JSON to stdout
  • Response body > 8 KB: after writing to disk, stdout outputs only a summary (top-level fields, common counts such as total/costToken, the length of the largest list field + the first 3 samples)
  • Add --inline to force full printing to stdout (also written to disk)

Data reading suggestions: first look at the summary to determine whether it is sufficient; when specific fields are needed, prefer to use jqorConvertFrom-Json to extract on demand from the saved json file, avoiding bringing the entire JSON into the context.

Resolve authentication and compute issues

When the following abnormal situations occur, use references/onboarding.md to guide resolution:

Abnormal situations

  • API Key not configured: the environment variable is not configured LINKFOX_AGENT_API_KEY, and LINKFOXAGENT_API_KEY。
  • Response 401 or 402 status code
  • Response indicates insufficient compute or balance: the message contains "insufficient compute balance/insufficient billing/insufficient balance/quota exceeded/insufficient balance/package expired/recharge required/please recharge", or content with a similar meaning.

Local Image Upload

This tool requires a publicly accessible image URL. If the user provides a local image file path (e.g., C:\Users\...\photo.png, /home/.../image.jpg), you must upload it first to obtain a public URL.

Run the upload script:

python scripts/upload_image.py /path/to/local/image.png

The script will return a public URL (valid for 24 hours) that can be used as the image URL parameter.

Usage Examples

1. Basic utility model patent search (recommended starting point) Search for utility model patents similar to a product image, matching shape/pattern/color across all countries:

{
  "url": "https://example.com/my-product.jpg",
  "patentType": "U",
  "model": 4,
  "limit": 20
}

2. Utility model patent search limited to specific countries Search only in China and the United States:

{
  "url": "https://example.com/my-product.jpg",
  "patentType": "U",
  "model": 4,
  "country": "CN,US",
  "limit": 20
}

3. Shape-only utility model patent search Compare by shape only (ignore pattern/color):

{
  "url": "https://example.com/my-product.jpg",
  "patentType": "U",
  "model": 3,
  "country": "CN",
  "limit": 20
}

4. Search only active patents within a date range Find active utility model patents filed after 2020:

{
  "url": "https://example.com/my-product.jpg",
  "patentType": "U",
  "model": 4,
  "simpleLegalStatus": "1",
  "applyStartTime": "20200101",
  "limit": 30
}

5. Search by specific assignee Find patents held by a particular company:

{
  "url": "https://example.com/my-product.jpg",
  "patentType": "U",
  "model": 4,
  "assignees": "Apple Inc.",
  "limit": 20
}

6. Get results with Chinese-translated titles

{
  "url": "https://example.com/my-product.jpg",
  "patentType": "U",
  "model": 4,
  "lang": "cn",
  "limit": 20
}

Display Rules

  1. Sort by score: Always sort results by score in descending order (highest similarity first) to help users quickly identify the most relevant infringement risks.

  2. Show complete details: When summarizing results or generating reports, include ALL of the following for each patent -- do NOT omit or abbreviate:

    • Application number (apno)
    • Patent title in Chinese (use lang: cn or provide translation)
    • Inventor (inventor)
    • Patent drawing (the matched url image)
    • Every patent image in the image list
    • Patent abstract
    • Patent description
    • IPC/UPC classification information
    • Radar result (radarResult) if available
    • Patent specification
  3. Legal disclaimer: Always append a friendly reminder at the end of results:

    This search result was generated by LinkfoxAgent. It is recommended to consult a professional patent attorney for legal advice.

  4. Score explanation: Remind users that the score represents visual similarity -- a higher score indicates a closer match, but does not constitute a legal determination of infringement.

  5. Pagination guidance: When the total count exceeds the returned results, inform users about the total number of matching patents and guide them to use offset and limit for additional pages.

  6. Error handling: When a query fails, explain the reason and suggest adjustments (e.g., verify the image URL is publicly accessible, check country codes, adjust date formats).
