About this skill

Two-Way Steelman Argument

The division of labor with the clarify-the-question one is different: that one helps you ask the question correctly, this one is for when you already have answers and don't know which to choose, to make a decision.

It first restates the choice you actually need to make, then gives the strongest reasons for each of the two directions, the applicable conditions, the biggest gains, the biggest risks, and the hardest objections to answer, and finally asks you only one question most likely to change the conclusion.

How to use

The prompt in the code block below is the original text; use it verbatim. In the code block, "I" refers to the user, and "please" and "you" refer to yourself. Do as it says, and do not show the filled-in prompt to the user.

  • The user wants you to execute: first fill the situation the user has already stated in this round of conversation into the 【】, supplementing only the one item that is truly missing, and don't make the user repeat what they have already said, then strictly follow the rules in the prompt. If it says don't give advice yet, then don't give advice yet; if it says ask only one question at a time, then ask only one question at a time; if it says output in order, then output in that order.
  • The user wants the original text (only counts if they explicitly say things like want to copy, want to paste, send me the original text, give me the prompt): output the blank version, leave 【】 unfilled, and don't change a single word. If the user only says "let me see this prompt" or "what is this one for," that doesn't count as wanting the original text; use one or two sentences to explain what it does and when to use it, then ask whether to run it now, and don't just dump the original text.
  • Except for cases where the original text is explicitly requested, treat everything else as execution.

Rewriting, condensing, expanding, translating, rearranging, and adding subheadings are prohibited; replacing it with your own process is prohibited; and compressing multiple rounds of follow-up questions into a one-time questionnaire is also prohibited. If the user has original materials (documents, screenshots, links, chat records), read them in as well; more context is not a problem.

Which one to follow after running

That final key question can't be answered by thinking; use the Skill tool to invoke minimum-experiment to let reality answer.

我需要做的决定是:【写清问题、两个选项、目标和现实约束】。

先别急着回答,也别默认我已经把问题想清楚。请先做一次双向钢人论证:

1. 用最完整、有力的方式,重述我真正需要做出的选择;
2. 分别给出支持两个方向的最强理由、适用条件、最大收益、最大风险,以及最难回答的反对意见;
3. 找出双方真正的分歧、最可能改变结论的关键变量,以及还需要补充的信息;
4. 只问我一个最可能改变结论的问题。

等我回答以后,再给出明确判断、理由、适用条件和下一步行动。

Where the user fills in

  • 【写清问题、两个选项、目标和现实约束】

If the user hasn't given it all, ask for the missing item first; don't make it up for them.

The original prompt text comes from Digital Life Kazik; see the acknowledgements in the repository README for the source. Changing this original text must go through scripts/sync.py; manual edits will be blocked by verify.
