About this skill

Six cold-start tactics + follower-growth conversion funnel

R — Original text (Reading)

"Tactic 1: grabbing space in big accounts' comment sections (most effective ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐): follow 10 small-to-mid-tier accounts, turn on notifications, comment within 5 minutes, 10 comments a day, gaining 5-15 followers per day. Tactic 5: quote retweets + in-depth opinions, as effective as Tactic 1. Posts depend on the first 24 hours, especially the first few hours; if it's quiet at the start, the system thinks no one is interested, and it sinks. Four steps to gaining followers: impressions → expand/full read → enter Profile to see the storefront → follow."

— AIP Going Global Tutorial · 5.1 Step5/5.2; X Account Launch Pitfall Guide · Four

I — Methodology skeleton (Interpretation)

Cold start isn't "post good content and wait for it to blow up naturally"; it's actively investing time in order of marginal return when a new account has no followers. The two tools are used together:

Four-step follower-growth funnel (diagnostic tool): tweet impressions → expand/full read → enter Profile to see the storefront → follow. Every step has drop-off. First diagnose which step you're losing people at: tweet gets no impressions (use Tactic 1 to grab big accounts' comment sections and borrow their traffic) / expanded but didn't enter Profile (the tweet lacks a hook guiding "check my homepage") / entered but didn't follow (the four storefront elements aren't in place; switch to x-account-setup).

Six tactics (ranked by marginal return):

  1. Grabbing space in big accounts' comment sections (highest) — follow 10 small-to-mid-tier accounts with 10k-100k followers, turn on notifications, comment within 5 minutes, template = restate the point + add experience, 10 comments a day
  2. Quote retweets + in-depth opinions (same tier) — Quote a big account's tweet + 300 words of incremental opinion
  3. Post daily — 1-3 posts a day, get moving first without chasing perfection
  4. Follow-for-follow communities — quickly gain 30-50 followers in the first 3 days, but ≤15 people per day to avoid risk control
  5. Riding trending traffic — search + trending
  6. Prioritize engagement rate — actively reply to every comment

First-24h boost mechanism: after a post goes out, the system gives it a bit of initial exposure; if there's engagement in the first few hours, it enters a larger traffic pool; if it's quiet, it sinks. You can't just leave it after posting — actively ask friends to repost, have communities boost it, and get big accounts to help repost.

Core decision logic: invest limited time where marginal return is highest (comment-section grabbing + quote retweets > passively posting), rather than distributing it evenly.

A1 — Application in the book (Past Application)

Case 1: 木马人 21 days 0→4200 (launch post got 280k impressions thanks to friends helping repost)

  • Problem: after the account was banned, restarting with a new account, 0 followers, how to get through the cold start?
  • Use of the methodology: use the first-24h boost mechanism — after the launch post goes out, rely on friends (community members) to repost and boost each other, actively breaking out of the initial traffic pool; pair this with a well-decorated homepage + blue V verification, so the funnel's step 3, the Profile storefront, can catch the traffic. He paid to join Teacher Panda's growth group, and the members in the group boosted each other's posts to quickly get through the cold start.
  • Conclusion: during the cold-start period, actively asking people for help reposting is far more effective than passively waiting for organic traffic; community boosting in the first few hours can break out of the initial pool and get the post into a larger recommendation pool.
  • Result: the launch post got 280k impressions, followers grew from 16 to 700+, reached 4200 followers in 21 days, and successfully got through the cold start.

Case 2: 向阳乔木 was recommended by tw93 and 宝玉 and grew to 10k Followers

  • Question: Where did the earliest 10,000 followers come from during the cold start period?
  • Application of the methodology: A variant of Strategy 1 (seizing the comment sections of big Vs) + Strategy 5 (quote reposting)—persist in browsing Product Hunt and overseas newsletters every day, test AI tools and write feedback, and through "preparing valuable content + passive propagation + proactive commenting" get KOLs to see high-quality content and proactively repost it. After tw93 and Baoyu reposted his content, his followers grew to 10,000.
  • Conclusion: The essence of seizing the comment sections of big Vs is not "piggybacking," but demonstrating incremental value where big Vs have exposure, so that KOLs proactively notice you and help amplify you—passive propagation during the cold start period comes from proactive preparation.
  • Result: After being recommended by tw93 and Baoyu, he grew to 10,000 Followers, completing the cold start.

A2 — Trigger Scenarios (Future Trigger) ★

In what situations will users need this skill?

  1. A new account has no followers, and posted tweets get no views—Need funnel diagnosis of which step is losing people + selection of priorities among the six strategies.
  2. Has a small number of followers (tens to hundreds) but post exposure is still very low—Determine whether still in the cold start period + choose a strategy to break through.
  3. After posting a tweet, doesn't know whether to proactively boost it/how to boost it—Need specific operations for the first 24h boosting mechanism.
  4. Limited time, and during the cold start stage doesn't know what to prioritize—Need a strategy combination ranked by marginal return.
  5. Wants to use mutual-follow communities/group boosting but is afraid of triggering risk control—Need safety red lines (≤15 mutual follows per day) and correct usage.

Language Signals (activate when these appear in the user's words)

  • "What should I do if I have no followers" / "No one views my posts" / "How to start an account with 0 followers"
  • "How to get through the cold start" / "How to gain traction" / "How to break zero"
  • "I posted a tweet and no one responded" / "Exposure in the single digits" / "A new account has no traffic"
  • "Are mutual-follow groups useful" / "Should I ask friends to repost for me" / "What should I do after posting a tweet"
  • "0 followers" / "no engagement" / "cold start" / "new account no views" / "how to get first 100 followers"

Distinction from adjacent skills

  • Difference from x-account-setup : account-setup is "pre-opening preparation" (the four decoration elements/blue V/account nurturing), while this skill is "customer acquisition after opening" (the six strategies + funnel diagnosis when there is already content but no traffic). When the user says "what should I do on the first day of a new account"→account-setup; when the user says "I posted a tweet but got no traffic"→this skill. In terms of sequence, account-setup is completed and then connects to this skill.
  • Difference from x-comment-engagement : comment-engagement is a comprehensive methodology for comment engagement (six methods + Repost vs Quote + Cunningham's Law); this skill uses "seizing the comment sections of big Vs" as one of the six strategies and does not expand on comment techniques themselves. When the user asks "how to comment to gain exposure without being seen as piggybacking"→comment-engagement; when the user asks "what strategy should I use for the cold start"→this skill.
  • Difference from x-foryou-algorithm : foryou-algorithm explains "why" the cold start is difficult (OON share/candidate isolation/initial traffic pool mechanism); this skill is "how to break through" the cold start (six strategies + first 24h boosting). When the user asks "how does the algorithm recommend content"→foryou-algorithm; when the user asks "how to get through the cold start"→this skill.
  • Difference from x-longtail-strategy : longtail is a mindset (don't bet on a single post going viral; systematically increase the probability of entering the top 10%); this skill is action (proactively boost in the first 24h to break through the initial pool). When the user asks "I posted 20 times in a row and none went viral, should I give up"→longtail; when the user asks "how does a new account get its first batch of followers"→this skill.

E — Executable Steps (Execution)

After the skill is activated, the agent should execute the following steps:

  1. Funnel diagnosis: pinpoint which step the loss occurs at

    • Check one by one: (a) Did the tweet get impressions? If not → the tweet didn't enter the traffic pool; use Strategy 1, big-V comment section hijacking, to borrow the big V's impressions. (b) Got impressions but users don't expand/finish reading? → The content hook isn't strong enough; optimize the first-line 3-second hook (can transfer to x-short-content-craft). (c) Expanded but didn't enter Profile? → The tweet lacks a hook guiding "check my profile"; add a CTA. (d) Entered Profile but didn't follow? → The four elements of the storefront aren't in place; transfer to x-account-setup to fix the storefront.
    • Completion standard: Clearly pinpoint which step the loss occurs at, and give the corresponding repair direction
  2. Choose strategies and invest time by marginal return ranking

    • Highest priority (invest 60% of time): Strategy 1, big-V comment section hijacking—follow 10 mid-to-small Vs with 10k-100k followers, turn on notifications, comment within 5 minutes, template = restate the viewpoint + add experience, 10 comments per day; Strategy 5, quote repost + in-depth viewpoint—Quote a big V's tweet + 300 words of incremental viewpoint (same level as Strategy 1)
    • Medium priority (invest 30% of time): Strategy 2, post tweets daily (1-3 per day; get it running first, don't chase perfection); Strategy 6, interaction rate first (actively reply to every comment, proactively @ relevant accounts)
    • Low priority (invest 10% of time): Strategy 3, follow-for-follow community (quickly gain 30-50 followers in the first 3 days, but ≤15 people per day to prevent risk control); Strategy 4, trending traffic hijacking (search + trending)
    • Completion standard: Give a strategy combination that fits the user's time budget, and mark each strategy's expected effect and execution volume
    • Stop condition: If the user's account has not enabled Blue Verified, first suggest enabling Blue Verified (transfer to x-account-setup), otherwise comments will be collapsed into the spam section and Strategy 1 will be ineffective; if the user's storefront is not decorated, fix the storefront first before discussing customer acquisition
  3. Actively heat up in the first 24h

    • After each tweet is posted: (a) Watch feedback in the first hour; if there is zero interaction, proactively find people to help repost. (b) Find people with more followers than you to help repost (the effect is most obvious; the Trojan Horse account launch post's 280k impressions relied on this). (c) Community mutual heating (paid growth groups / follow-for-follow community members help repost). (d) Post high-quality comments under high-traffic posts to drive traffic yourself (reply impressions count as your own impressions).
    • Completion standard: Every tweet has a clear heating plan, not "post it and ignore it"
    • Stop condition: If the post has passed 24h with zero interaction, determine that it has sunk, stop investing in heating, and move on to the next piece of content production

B — Boundary ★

Do not use this skill in the following situations

  • Pre-launch preparation stage for a new account——When decoration/Blue Verified/account nurturing are not complete, use x-account-setupfirst. If the storefront is not properly decorated, step 3 of the cold-start funnel (entering Profile to view the storefront) will inevitably leak, and the six strategies' effects will be discounted.
  • Daily content operations for an account that already has stable followers (500+)——Daily topic selection/writing tweets/data review belongs to x-short-content-craft / x-data-review, not a cold-start problem. Cold start solves 0→1, not the sustained growth of 1→N.
  • Troubleshooting and appeals after being shadowbanned/banned——Should transfer to x-account-pitfalls. Shadowbanning will cause the post to have no viewers, but the root cause is account status rather than an incorrect cold-start strategy.
  • Consultation purely on comment interaction techniques——Should transfer to x-comment-engagement. This skill uses comment section hijacking as one of the strategies, and does not elaborate on comment methodology (Cunningham's Law / A-B flame wars / Repost vs Quote, etc.).

Failure modes the author warns about in the book

  • ce05 — Posting and ignoring, missing the golden window: After posting, if you don't follow up with interaction, you miss the golden window for cold start in the first 1-24 hours. If it's quiet in the first few hours, the system determines that "no one is interested" and the post sinks. After posting, you must proactively heat it up—this is the biggest behavioral difference between cold start and everyday posting.
  • ce11 — Excessive mutual following, more than 15 per day, triggers risk control: Mutual following more than 15 people per day triggers the anti-cheat system, and the account gets throttled or labeled a "mutual-follow bot." Mutual-follow communities are useful but must be kept within limits; the number of accounts you follow should not be far greater than your number of followers (ce17).
  • ce21 — Gaming-the-algorithm tactics become ineffective after the platform tightens up: Mutual following + grabbing comment sections + community heating are essentially gaming the current algorithm. Once the platform tightens up (cracking down on mutual following, downranking Quote, restricting homogeneous reposting), the whole playbook may become ineffective. What is truly transferable is content ability itself; tactics are a transitional means, not a long-term strategy.

The author's blind spots / era limitations

  • Survivorship bias: Trojan Horse Man going from 0 to 4,200 in 21 days, and Xiangyang Qiaomu gaining 10k from KOL recommendations, are both success cases, lacking a control group—cases that used the same six strategies but didn't take off are not shown. The six strategies are a necessary-condition reference, not a sufficient-condition guarantee.
  • Point-in-time data: Thresholds such as "10 comments per day expected to gain 5-15 followers daily," "mutual following ≤15," and "the first 24h golden window" are point-in-time data from 2024-2026. Platform anti-cheat will evolve, and the specific numbers will drift.
  • Algorithm-gaming risk: Among the six strategies, mutual following / grabbing comment sections / community heating are essentially gaming the algorithm, and may become ineffective after the platform tightens up (ce21). The author themselves also said, "During the initial account-launch stage, you can transition through tactics, but in the long run, good content is the real key."

Adjacent methodologies that are easy to confuse

  • Cold start vs account nurturing: Account nurturing is the "safe period" before posting content (simulating real-person browsing to build account weight, controlling the following-to-follower ratio); cold start is the "heating period" after posting content (proactively interacting to break through the initial traffic pool). The timing is different, and they cannot be mixed up—during the account-nurturing period you cannot interact heavily, and during the cold-start period you must proactively interact.
  • Cold start vs long-tail mindset: Cold start is the action of "proactively heating up in the first 24h to break through zero" (solving 0→1); long tail is the mindset of "don't bet on a single post going viral; the system increases the probability of entering the top 10%" (managing expectations for 1→N). The two are complementary: the long-tail mindset keeps you from giving up because a single post didn't go viral, and the cold-start action makes you try your best to heat up every post after publishing.

Related skills

  • depends-on x-account-setup: Cold start depends on opening preparation—only after the storefront/blue V/account nurturing is complete do you enter customer acquisition; otherwise comments get folded into the spam section (without blue V), and step 3 of the funnel (entering Profile) will inevitably leak (storefront not decorated).
  • depends-on x-foryou-algorithm: Cold-start strategy depends on understanding the algorithm mechanism—first understand why cold start is hard (OON share/candidate isolation/initial traffic pool mechanism), then design a breakthrough strategy.
  • composes-with x-comment-engagement: Cold start uses "grabbing big V comment sections" as one of its strategies, and comment interaction provides specific tactical execution (six methods + Quote vs Repost); the two work together through strategy sequencing + tactics.
