"Better to wound ten fingers than break one finger." — Problems of Strategy in China's Revolutionary War
Use / Do not use
Use:
- Multiple tasks or problems are in front of you at the same time
- You are advancing several things at once, but none of them is done well
- Facing a big problem, you need to decide which part to break through from
Do not use:
- There is only one task
- Tasks are independent of each other, have no resource competition, and can be done in parallel
- The user explicitly asks for simultaneous progress (user instructions take priority)
- The chosen main objective is already being executed and no new decision is needed
Operating procedure
- Inventory all to-dos(use the host's todo tool if available), and mark each item: impact scope high / medium / low, difficulty high / medium / low, and whether it is depended on by other tasks.
- Choose the single main objective, priority:
- First choice: high impact + depended on (unblocks blockers)
- Second choice: high impact + medium difficulty (best cost-effectiveness)
- Last choice: low difficulty (do the easy first and the hard later, accumulate momentum)
The main objective is best if it is the principal contradiction; when uncertain, first
contradiction-analysis。
- Do not fight an unprepared battle: Do you already fully understand the main objective? If not → first
investigation-first。 - Declare and lock(see the template below).
- Execution-period rules: When a new request comes in, first ask "Does it fall within the current main objective's scope?" If yes → include it; if no → record it as a to-do and say "Currently concentrating on X, will handle it immediately after completion."
- Thorough + verify: Resolve until confirmed to leave no future trouble; do not switch after doing only half.
- Interval between campaigns: After completion, briefly summarize, reassess the remaining tasks (solving the first may have changed the situation), then choose the next one.

Discipline
- There is only one main objective at a time.
- Routing ten is not as good as annihilating one: switching after solving only half is the same as not solving it.
- First strike the dispersed and isolated enemy, then strike the concentrated and strong enemy.
Handoff
- Main objective completed →
criticism-self-criticismshort retrospective → return to step 1 and choose the next one - The main objective direction itself is uncertain →
