Tikkie is ABN AMRO's payment-request product. This skill covers notification subscriptions in the Tikkie API v2 (2.3.x):
- Production:
https://api.abnamro.com/v2/tikkie - Sandbox:
https://api-sandbox.abnamro.com/v2/tikkie
Every API call carries an API-Key header (the consumer key from your ABN AMRO
developer portal app) and an X-App-Token header (a UUID app token from the
Tikkie Business Portal).
This skill does not cover ABN AMRO's separate Business Account Notification API (bank-account transaction webhooks) or the retired Tikkie v1 API. Their schemes differ, so don't mix them.
When to Use This Skill
- How do I receive Tikkie payment notifications?
- How do I verify a Tikkie webhook signature? (You can't, because Tikkie doesn't sign them.)
- How do I subscribe to Tikkie notifications (
/paymentrequestssubscription,/transactionssubscription)? - How do I handle
PAYMENT,REFUNDandBUNDLEnotifications? - Why doesn't the Tikkie notification include the amount or status?
Verification (core): there is no signature
The official OpenAPI spec (TikkieAPI_v2.3.yaml) defines only a JSON request
body and a 2XX acknowledgement for notification callbacks. It defines no
signature header, shared secret, HMAC, timestamp header or asymmetric
signature, and ABN AMRO publishes no source-IP allowlist. Do not write
an HMAC verifier for Tikkie. You'd have to invent the inputs, because Tikkie
sends none.
Use these mitigations instead. They reduce risk, but they don't prove who sent the request:
// 1. Weak check: subscriptionId must equal the id returned (201) when you subscribed.
const allowed = process.env.TIKKIE_SUBSCRIPTION_ID.split(',').map((s) => s.trim());
if (!allowed.includes(body.subscriptionId)) return res.status(403).end();
// 2. Strong check: the notification only carries tokens. Re-fetch the real record.
const path = {
PAYMENT: `/paymentrequests/${body.paymentRequestToken}/payments/${body.paymentToken}`,
REFUND: `/paymentrequests/${body.paymentRequestToken}/payments/${body.paymentToken}/refunds/${body.refundToken}`,
BUNDLE: `/transactionbundles/${body.bundleId}`,
}[body.notificationType];
const r = await fetch(`${process.env.TIKKIE_API_BASE_URL}${path}`, {
headers: { 'API-Key': process.env.TIKKIE_API_KEY, 'X-App-Token': process.env.TIKKIE_APP_TOKEN },
});
if (r.status === 404) return res.status(403).end(); // made-up tokens → forged
const record = await r.json(); // amountInCents, status, … come from HERE, never the notification
You can also register a hard-to-guess callback URL (for example, one with a
random path segment). Tikkie doesn't document query-string secrets. The spec
only requires url to be a valid URL.
For complete handlers with tests, see examples/express/, examples/nextjs/, examples/fastapi/.
Notification Types
There's no event-type header. Dispatch on the notificationType body field:
notificationType |
Subscription | Fields (besides subscriptionId) |
Re-fetch with |
|---|---|---|---|
PAYMENT |
/paymentrequestssubscription |
paymentRequestToken, paymentToken |
GET /paymentrequests/{paymentRequestToken}/payments/{paymentToken} |
REFUND |
/paymentrequestssubscription |
paymentRequestToken, paymentToken, refundToken |
GET /paymentrequests/{paymentRequestToken}/payments/{paymentToken}/refunds/{refundToken} |
BUNDLE |
/transactionssubscription |
bundleId |
GET /transactionbundles/{bundleId} |
{"subscriptionId":"6289db02-d422-4e93-b65c-30fa973bd341","notificationType":"PAYMENT",
"paymentRequestToken":"qzdnzr8hnVWTgXXcFRLUMc","paymentToken":"21ef7413-cc3c-4c80-9272-6710fada28e4"}
Notifications carry no amount, status, timestamp or id fields. If you get an
unknown notificationType or an unknown field, log it and return 2xx.
Delivery and Retries
- Delivery is an HTTP
POSTwithContent-Type: application/json. Respond with any2XX. - From the spec: "best-effort approach ... retry mechanism with a maximum of three attempts. However, you should not rely solely on notifications and are encouraged to have a GET implemented". Run a reconciliation poll as well.
- Because retries can duplicate deliveries, make the handler idempotent.
Deduplicate on
paymentToken(PAYMENT),refundToken(REFUND) orbundleId(BUNDLE).
Environment Variables
TIKKIE_SUBSCRIPTION_ID= # from the 201 subscribe response; comma-separate both subscriptions
TIKKIE_API_KEY= # API-Key header (developer.abnamro.com app consumer key)
TIKKIE_APP_TOKEN= # X-App-Token header (Tikkie Business Portal, or POST /sandboxapps)
TIKKIE_API_BASE_URL=https://api-sandbox.abnamro.com/v2/tikkie
If TIKKIE_SUBSCRIPTION_ID is unset, the examples log a warning and skip the
check. If the API credentials are unset, they skip the re-fetch. Don't fulfil
orders in production with either check skipped.
Local Development
npx hookdeck-cli listen 3000 tikkie --path /webhooks/tikkie
No account is needed. Register the printed URL with
POST /paymentrequestssubscription. Hookdeck's TIKKIE source type is POST-only
and has no verification step, because there's no signature to check. The
subscriptionId check and re-fetch still apply when you receive through Hookdeck.

We recommend installing the webhook-handler-patterns skill alongside this one. It covers handler sequence, idempotency, error handling and retry logic. Key references (open on GitHub):
- Handler sequence: validate first, dispatch second, handle idempotently third
- Idempotency: prevent duplicate processing (dedupe on
paymentToken/refundToken/bundleId) - Error handling: return codes, logging and dead-letter queues
- Retry logic: provider retry schedules and backoff patterns
