About this skill

illustration-bob

Purpose

Apply a continuous tiny vertical wobble to a still illustration figure (character, mascot, object) so it feels animated even though the source is static art. Without this, illustrations feel like stickers; with it, they feel like they're breathing.

Params

{
  "amplitude_px": 3,
  "period_frames": 36,                   // ~1.2s at 30fps
  "axis": "vertical", // vertical | horizontal | both
  "wave_kind": "sine",
  "always_on": true
}

Behaviour

Apply transform: translateY(<amplitude * sin(2π * frame / period)>) continuously from scene start to scene end. No start delay needed — the figure should be alive from frame 1.

Style pack overrides

  • SP-G (riso-illustration) — default for every figure/character.
  • SP-B (pinterest) — occasional on illustrated doodles.

Quality Checks

  • Amplitude small (≤4px). More looks like the figure is bouncing.
  • Period ≥30 frames. Faster reads as nervous.
  • Vertical axis primary (illustrations breathe vertically, like a person).

Failure Modes

  • Figure bounces too much. Amplitude too high.
  • Figure feels nervous. Period too fast.
  • Figure feels dead. Period > 90 frames; or amplitude is 0.
