⚠️ Be cautious with Product Hunt for 2C products
This skill defaults to a dev / maker / B2B audience.2C consumer goods / education / apps / games: The Product Hunt audience is makers/tech people, a mismatch with ordinary consumers and extremely low ROI—at most post once to get a badge. Please redirect your effort to vertical communities (Reddit / Xiaohongshu / Zhihu / Naver 카페) + short videos (TikTok / Douyin / YouTube) + vertical KOLs, and use "free product as a hook" to drive conversion. - Anyone who wants a structured 30-day launch roadmap
Week 4 Deep-Dive: Distribution Math (2026 benchmarks)
Most first launches fail on arithmetic, not effort. Three rules before spending a dollar:
1. Work backwards from a traffic number. Fix the launch-day visitor target first, then assign every channel a hard quota with its own UTM short link and an owner. Reference case (an AI Agent product, Dec 2025): a 500K-visit launch day — roughly 80% from creator quote-tweets, the remainder split across Reddit threads, YouTube ads, and community groups — netted ~800 signups at $6.25 per registration. Impressions are cheap to engineer; conversion is the constraint.
2. Match the channel to the budget tier.
| Budget | Realistic week-4 outcome |
|---|---|
| ~$1K | A few hundred signups (micro-ads + niche subreddits + topic groups) |
| ~$5K | ~1,800 votes/24h — enough to contest daily #1, but exceed the pacing red lines and PH can revoke the badge post-hoc (it has happened) |
| $10–20K | ~1M impressions, low-thousands of signups |
Below ~$5K, skip the PH leaderboard entirely — ten small Twitter creators outperform it (PH exposure→upvote converts at ~1%; Reddit converts exposure→GitHub stars at 5–8%).
3. Don't set the date before 10 happy users. The readiness bar: at least ten external developers actively using the product and satisfied. Until then, spend 60% of your time on users and 40% on launch prep — not the reverse. Start preparing assets once the product is at "60 points": copy first, images and video later.
Bonus — if Hacker News is in your week-4 plan: the front-page window is brutal (~30 points + 10 comments within 30 minutes, US morning), so keep backup posts with different angles ready rather than betting on one.
