Use approved local media and explicit frame, channel, resolution and FPS requirements. Choose IMAGE_SEQUENCE for numbered rendered frames, SCENE for an editable Blender scene, and TEXT for local titles or captions. Place strips on deliberate channels, trim with final frame bounds, and overlap clips only for an intended transition.
Use CROSS, GAMMA_CROSS or WIPE only on overlapping visual strips. SOUND_CROSSFADE is implemented as opposing volume keyframes because Blender 5.2 does not expose it as an Effect Strip. Set speed through a SPEED strip and use a compositor modifier only with an existing CompositorNodeTree group.
Before export, inspect strip names, types, channels and frame ranges. For long or restartable output, render a durable frame sequence and submit COMPOSE_VIDEO. Probe the resulting MP4 for dimensions, frame rate, duration and required audio stream, then reopen the .blend to verify editability.
This Skill edits a supplied timeline; it does not create story structure, authorize external publishing or replace a dedicated audio-mixing workflow.
When to Use
Use when existing assets need editable arrangement, trimming, speed, transitions, titles, audio fades, or local output in Blender VSE.
Prerequisites
- Approved local media, FPS, resolution, frame range, channel plan, timecode, and audio requirements.
- The asset sequence must be enumerable; overlap is only for explicit transitions, and the output directory must be authorized.
Workflow
Step 1. Probe media properties and establish a timeline baseline; do not mix unknown FPS.
Step 2. Create strips by type, set start/end frames and channels, and avoid unintentional overwrites.
Step 3. Configure speed, visual transitions, text, and audio keyframes; check the actual overlap intervals.
Step 4. Check the strip list and timeline, then generate a persistent frame sequence or submit a video compositing job.
Step 5. Probe the output and reopen .blend to verify editability.
Validation
Provide strip names, types, channels, frame ranges, speed/transition parameters, audio streams, as well as output dimensions, FPS, duration, and reopen results.
Rules and Capability Boundaries (Inapplicable Scenarios)
Only edit the provided timeline; do not create story structure, authorize external publishing, or replace professional mixing or copyright review.
Gotchas
- Audio-video desync: check the source FPS, sample rate, and trim boundaries.
- Transition ineffective: confirm that the visual strips truly overlap and the type is supported.
- Output missing audio track: check SOUND strips, volume keyframes, and media probe results.
