project-archive-done

Archive completed (Done) items in the project and clean up the board. If the built-in Auto-archive is configured, also check its status.

Prerequisites

• Completed items must exist in the target GitHub Project
• gh The CLI must be installed and authenticated (with theproject scope)

Flow

Step 1: Check the Auto-archive status

If the built-in Auto-archive workflow is enabled, items are archived automatically. Confirm the configuration status with the user.

Settings URL: https://github.com/orgs/<owner>/projects/<number>/workflows (For personal projects: https://github.com/users/<owner>/projects/<number>/workflows）

• Auto-archive is enabled → Running the skill is basically unnecessary. Continue only if you want to archive immediately
• Auto-archive is disabled → Perform manual archiving with this skill. If necessary, also suggest enabling Auto-archive

Step 2: Retrieve project items

gh project item-list <number> \
  --owner <owner> \
  --format json \
  --limit 999

Step 3: Retrieve field metadata

gh project field-list <number> \
  --owner <owner> \
  --format json

Identify the ID of the Status field and the ID of the "Done" option.

Step 4: Filter completed items

From the results of Step 2, extract items whose Status is "Done".

Step 5: Confirm with the user

Display the archive targets:

Step 6: Execute archiving

Archive each item:

Step 7: Report the results

If Auto-archive is disabled, recommend enabling it:

Verification

After Step 7 is complete, verify the archive results with the following:

gh project item-list <number> --owner <owner> --format json --limit 999

It is complete if items with Status "Done" have disappeared from the list. Archived items are not deleted and can be restored (gh project item-archive --undo）。

Notes

• Always obtain the user's confirmation before archiving
• Archiving can be undone (gh project item-archive --undo）
• Archived items are hidden from the project view but are not deleted
• Using this together with the Auto-archive built-in workflow can reduce the frequency of manual execution
• It is also possible to filter and archive by specific conditions (date range, labels, etc.)

Execution in a sandbox environment

This skill requires GitHub operations over the network (gh project item-archive). Execute the relevant commands with the sandbox disabled on a per-command basis. It cannot be executed in an environment where network blocking cannot be lifted.
