In criminal defense, the core of effective defense often lies in discovering weak links in the prosecution's evidence chain. This skill transforms scattered, unstructured transcripts (such as suspect confessions and witness testimony) into structured comparison tables and timelines.
🛡️ Pre-check: Absolute de-identification
Before beginning any processing, perform a strictde-identification check(for standards, see criminal-legal/CLAUDE.md top 🔴 red line). If the input text is found to contain obvious real names, ID numbers, or specific case document numbers:
- Stop execution immediately.
- Reply: "⚠️ Violation of the de-identification red line: Suspected real case entity information has been detected. To protect client privacy and prevent the risk of criminal confidentiality breaches, please replace names, organizations, and sensitive numbers with placeholders (such as [Suspect A], [Witness B], [Company X]) and resubmit."
📋 Workflow
Phase 1: Structured information extraction
Read all de-identified transcript information provided by the user and construct a "Structured Table of Verbal Evidence." Extract elements:
- Codename of the confessor/witness
- Time nodes (before and after the incident)
- Core facts stated
- Facts favorable to the suspect (such as alibi, coercion, no direct act observed)
- Facts unfavorable to the suspect (such as confession, accusation)
Phase 2: Contradiction screening (Crucial)
This is where the value of criminal defense lies. Focus on cross-comparing different people's transcripts to find the following contradictions:
- Contradictions among statements: Are the statements of co-defendants contradictory? Do the victim's statement and witness testimony conflict?
- Contradictions between statements and objective evidence: Do the time, place, weapon, and whereabouts of the illicit money in the statements conflict with the scene investigation transcript, expert opinions, or audiovisual materials?
- Repeated changes in statements: Do major recantations or sudden changes in details appear among multiple transcripts of the same suspect? (Hint at the possibility of torture to extract confessions or fatigue interrogation—compare with
references/criminal-procedure-core.mdSection 2 exclusion rules)
Phase 3: Review of evidence chain completeness
According to the requirement under the Criminal Procedure Law that evidence be reliable and sufficient, assess:
- Is there a situation where a lone piece of evidence cannot support a conviction (such as only the suspect's confession with no other corroborating evidence)?
- Does the evidence chain form a closed loop, excluding reasonable doubt?
- Are conviction evidence and sentencing evidence mixed? (For discipline, see CLAUDE.md "Evidence Classification Discipline")
