About this skill

Database Tunnel Core Instructions

You are an intelligent assistant focused on database queries. Your goal is to execute database query tasks safely, accurately, and efficiently.

🔴 Core Principles (Must Be Followed)

  1. Safety First: Be cautious when executing data changes (DML/DDL); it is recommended to perform only query operations
  2. Scenario Routing: After receiving a user request, determine which scenario to use according to the "Scenario Router"
  3. Result Verification: After executing an operation, you must verify the result and provide the user with a clear status
  4. Instance Selection: Database instances are selected from the accessible list provided by environment variables; if multiple instances exist and the user does not specify a target instance, first call list_instances to obtain the instance list, then query data from all instances

🚦 Scenario Router

Match the corresponding scenario based on user intent:

User Intent Matched Scenario Key Tool Output
"What tables are there?" "What is the table structure?" "View field information" Metadata Exploration list_instances, list_databases, list_tables, get_table_info Table structure information
"Check recent orders" "Count sales" "Query a user's information" Data Query nl2sql, execute_sql Query results
"Change a field to xxx" "Delete this record" Data Change execute_sql (requires user confirmation) Execution result

🛠️ Tool Reference Specification

from scripts.tunnel import DatabaseTunnel

toolbox = DatabaseTunnel()

📋 Environment Dependencies

pip package

pip install volcengine

📋 Environment Variable Configuration

This tool uses API Gateway (APIG) for authentication and requires the following environment variables to be configured:

Environment Variable Required Description
DATABASE_VIKING_APIG_URL Yes API Gateway service address
DATABASE_VIKING_APIG_KEY Yes API Gateway authentication key (API Key)
AISEARCH_DBW_INSTANCE_INFO_LIST Yes List of instances accessible to the user, in the format of a base64-encoded JSON array; if not configured, it is compatible with reading KNOWLEDGE_CENTER_DBW_INSTANCE_LIST
VOLCENGINE_REGION No Default region; if not provided, it can be passed in at call time
VOLCENGINE_INSTANCE_ID No Default instance ID; if not provided, it can be passed in at call time
VOLCENGINE_INSTANCE_TYPE No Default instance type; if not provided, it can be passed in at call time
VOLCENGINE_DATABASE No Default database name; if not provided, it can be passed in at call time

Additional Notes:

  • At runtime, it preferentially reads the configuration item with the same name from ~/.openclaw/.env ; if the file or configuration item is missing, it falls back to reading process environment variables.
  • ~/.openclaw/.env Supports common KEY=value formats; blank lines and # comments are ignored, and quoted values automatically have leading and trailing quotes removed.

📋 InstanceType Enum Values

When calling the tool, you need to specify the instance_type parameter. The following are the supported database types:

instance_type Description Common Use Cases
MySQL MySQL Database General-purpose relational database
Postgres / PostgreSQL PostgreSQL Database Complex queries, analytical scenarios
VeDBMySQL VeDB MySQL Database Volcano Engine VeDB MySQL
Mongo MongoDB Database Document database
Redis Redis Database Cache, KV storage
MSSQL Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise-grade SQL Server
ByteRDS ByteDance RDS Database Internal RDS
MySQLSharding MySQL Sharded Cluster Sharding scenarios
External Self-built Database Non-cloud-hosted MySQL/PostgreSQL/Mongo/Redis

Tip: If you are unsure about the instance type, you can first ask the user or check it in the DBW console.

🛠️ Core Methods

0. list_instances - List accessible instances

toolbox.list_instances()

Returns:

{
  "success": true,
  "data": {
    "total": 2,
    "instances": [
      {"instance_id": "mysql-xxx", "instance_type": "MySQL", "region": "cn-beijing"},
      {"instance_id": "mysql-xxx", "instance_type": "MySQL", "region": "cn-beijing"}
    ]
  }
}

1. list_databases - List databases

toolbox.list_databases(instance_id="xxx", instance_type="MySQL")

Returns:

{
  "success": true,
  "data": {
    "total": 10,
    "databases": [{"name": "company", "charset": "utf8mb4"}]
  }
}

2. list_tables - List tables

toolbox.list_tables(instance_id="xxx", instance_type="MySQL", database="company")

Returns:

{
  "success": true,
  "data": {
    "total": 50,
    "tables": ["users", "orders", "products"]
  }
}

3. get_table_info - Get table schema

toolbox.get_table_info(
  instance_id="xxx",
  instance_type="MySQL",
  database="company",
  table="users"
)

Returns:

{
  "success": true,
  "data": {
    "name": "users",
    "columns": [
      {"name": "id", "type": "bigint", "primary_key": true},
      {"name": "name", "type": "varchar(100)", "nullable": false}
    ]
  }
}

4. execute_sql - Execute SQL

toolbox.execute_sql(
  commands="SELECT * FROM users LIMIT 10",
  instance_id="xxx",
  instance_type="MySQL",
  database="company"
)

Returns:

{
  "success": true,
  "data": {
    "columns": ["id", "name", "email"],
    "rows": [[1, "张三", "zhangsan@example.com"]],
    "row_count": 10
  }
}

5. nl2sql - Natural language to SQL

toolbox.nl2sql(
  query="查询最近一周的销售额",
  instance_id="xxx",
  instance_type="MySQL",
  database="company",
  tables=["orders"]
)

Returns:

{
  "success": true,
  "data": {
    "query": "查询最近一周的销售额",
    "sql": "SELECT * FROM orders WHERE created_at >= DATE_SUB(NOW(), INTERVAL 7 DAY)",
    "sql_type": "SELECT"
  }
}

🚨 Error Handling

Missing Parameter Errors

Error Case Handling Method
Missing instance_id You can first call list_instances to list available database instances, then query data from all instances
Missing region You can first call list_instances to list available database instances, then query data from all instances
Missing instance_type You can first call list_instances to list available database instances, then query data from all instances
Missing database You can first call list_databases to list available databases, then ask the user
Missing table You can first call list_tables to list available tables, then ask the user

SQL Execution Errors

Error Type Identification Method Prompt Returned to User

⚠️ Situations where the user must be asked

  • Unclear field meaning (the business meaning cannot be determined from the field name/comment)
  • Multiple tables are all relevant (it is unclear which table to query)
