About this skill

Preflight Before Submission (mw-submission)

When to Use

  • "Submitting tomorrow"
  • Final check before preparing to click the submit button
  • Unsure what attachments the submission system requires

Pre-Submission Checklist

Format

  • Main text in SimSun (Songti) 12 pt / 1.5 line spacing (see the requirements for the current year)
  • Section numbering uses 一、二、三 (level 1) → (一)、(二) (level 2) → 1、2、3 (level 3)
  • Figures and tables are numbered consecutively and correspond to in-text citations
  • Equations are on separate lines, centered, with numbers (1) (2) ... on the right
  • References follow a unified format at the end: author, year, article title, journal, volume/issue, page numbers

Word Count

  • Main text 15,000–25,000 Chinese characters (including figures and tables)
  • Chinese abstract 300–500 Chinese characters
  • English abstract 200–300 words
  • Keywords: 3–5 in Chinese + corresponding English

Double-Blind

  • In the main text, any information that can identify the authorhas been removed
    • For self-citations, use "existing research (XX, 2020)"; do not write "the author's prior research"
    • Acknowledgments pageseparatelysubmitted, not in the main text
    • Project funding informationseparatelysubmitted
    • Author contact information is filled in only in the submission system, not written in the main text
  • File names do not contain author names / affiliations

References

  • Chinese and English references are arranged according to their respective formats
  • Chinese journals use full names (do not write MW for 《管理世界》)
  • Each reference is complete: author, year, title, journal / publisher, volume, issue, pages
  • Every citation appearing in the text is in the reference list
  • Every item in the reference list appears at least once in the text

Attachments

  • Acknowledgments page (separate)
  • Funding statement (separate)
  • Author biographies (separate)
  • Conflict of interest statement (if required)
  • Data availability statement (if required)

Plagiarism Check

  • CNKI plagiarism check ≤ 15% (to be safe, ≤ 10%)
  • Self-citation over 5% → explain separately
  • Has the working paper / conference paper version been declared?

Key Points for Operating the Submission System

  • Management World online submission system: refresh frequently, single upload ≤ 20MB
  • Charges: This journal specifically statesno review fee and no page fee(verified on 2026-06-22; the CNKI publishing platform and multiple submission information pages are consistent; be sure to submit through the official system, beware of submission agency/charging traps, subject to the editorial office's latest statement)
  • Recommend 3 reviewers (suggest those in the same field, with relevant publications, and no collaboration with the authors)
  • Do not recommend 0–2 reviewers
  • Be sure to select the "research type" accurately (empirical / theoretical / review / case)

Anti-patterns

  • Revised all night without doing a double-blind check — fatal
  • References are still in EndNote's default APA format and have not been converted to Chinese规范
  • Figure/table numbering is broken / Figure 3 is referred to in the text as "Figure 4"
  • Forgot to delete the acknowledgments from the working paper version when submitting

Pre-submission review expectation table for this journal

《管理世界》 is sponsored by the Development Research Center of the State Council and is a major规范 empirical journal. Its initial review (technical desk rejection by the editorial office) is extremely strict about formatting, double-blind requirements, plagiarism checks, and reference standards. Many manuscripts are returned before external review due to formal issues. The table below anchors the hard expectations before submission to this journal and common rejection patterns (the specific thresholds and requirements for the current year are subject to the editorial office's latest guidelines):

Dimension Expectations of this journal High-risk signals for desk rejection
Double-blind No author-identifiable information anywhere in the main text Self-citation written as "the author's previous research"; acknowledgments not submitted separately
References Use full names for Chinese sources, uniform format, one-to-one correspondence between citations and references EndNote default APA not converted to Chinese规范
Plagiarism check Meets CNKI plagiarism check standard; excessive self-citation has been explained Working paper version not declared
Research type Accurately checked in the system Empirical incorrectly labeled as review

Common rejection patterns (pre-submission/desk review)

  • Revised all night without doing a double-blind check; affiliation/project name remains in the main text — desk rejection
  • Figure/table numbering is broken or references in the text are misaligned (Figure 3 written as Figure 4)
  • References are "in the text but not in the reference list" or "in the reference list but not in the text"
  • Acknowledgments/funding information from the working paper version were not deleted, revealing author identity

Mini walkthrough example: pre-submission for a business environment reform manuscript

Fabricate a manuscript to be submitted and walk through the checklist (numbers are illustrative):

  • Word count: Main text is about 21,000 Chinese characters (within the 15,000–25,000 range, illustrative); Chinese abstract is 420 characters; English abstract is 260 words.
  • Double-blind: Search the full text for affiliation names/funding numbers — found that a footnote in the main text still contained "National Social Science Fund (No. XXX)", so it was moved to a separate funding statement page; self-citation was changed from "our previous research" to "existing research (XX, 2021)".
  • References: 31 Chinese entries / 38 English entries (illustrative); check that each entry appears at least once in the text; 《管理世界》 and 《经济研究》 are written in full without abbreviation.
  • Plagiarism check: CNKI plagiarism check 9% (illustrative, with ≤10% as the safety line); self-citation share is 4%, not exceeding the standard, so no separate explanation is needed.
  • Attachments: The acknowledgments page, funding statement, author bios, and data availability statement are uploaded separately; recommend 3 reviewers in the same field with no collaborative relationship.
  • Judgment: After double-blind corrections, the format is compliant → can be submitted and await external review.

Reviewer follow-up question patterns + revision methods in the context of this journal

  • Initial review feedback "suspected identifiable author identity" → Fix: use searches to remove institution, project, and self-referential expressions one by one; acknowledgements and funding information must always go in a separate attachment.
  • Initial review feedback "reference formatting is nonstandard" → Fix: reformat each item according to the journal's unified end-of-text format (author, year, title, journal, volume/issue, page numbers), with Chinese and English listed separately.
  • Initial review feedback "the research type checkbox does not match the main text" → In the context of this journal, accurately checking empirical/theoretical/review/case impact determines the review routing, so it must be consistent with the main text.

Calibration anchors

This journal's online submission system usually requires the main text to be separated from identifiable information, references to follow Chinese norms, and acknowledgements/funding/author biographies to be submitted as separate attachments; plagiarism-check and word-count thresholds are adjusted annually. The specific attachment list, single-upload size limit, and number of recommended reviewers are subject to the editorial office's latest manuscript guidelines.
