About this skill

evidence-gate — fact-verification gate

Any reporting workflow (PR description, release notes, RCA report, security review), at draft finalization, write-back / deliverybefore, run every factual claim through this gate once. Core principles:A claim is not evidence, a commit message is not evidence, memory-based inference is not evidence—only command output checked on the spot counts as evidence (per ~/.claude/rules/common/diagnostics.md)。

Unlike evidence-check(which conducts four-dimension academic/industry research on technical decisions): this skill only handleswhether the claims in this report match live facts, and does not conduct research-style investigation.

1. Claim Schema

Every factual claim in the draft must be decomposable into a row, in a fixed format:

Claim Evidence command Key output Verdict
"Added X feature" git diff origin/main..HEAD -- path/to/file +function X(...) that hunk PASS
"All N unit tests green" Cannot be rerun against the current diff — UNVERIFIABLE
"Does not affect Y module" git diff --stat origin/main..HEAD -- Y/ Y/ has no diff at all PASS
  • Key outputKeep only the few lines needed for the verdict, do not dump the full text—but keep enough that a person can review it without rerunning the command.
  • Three-state verdict, cannot be omitted:
    • PASS: the command output directly supports the claim.
    • FAIL: the command output contradicts the claim (e.g., claiming "X untouched" but X appears in the diff file list).
    • UNVERIFIABLE: no rerunnable command can confirm it (e.g., local test numbers at the end of a commit message, verbal performance observations)—not glossed over with a blank, the claim itself must either be rewritten into a verifiable version or removed entirely; the original sentence must not be kept to muddle through.
  • This table itself is a deliverable, and each row can be rerun by a fact-checker (Section 4).
  • Before handing over the schema, the author runs each evidence command once themselves: paste the actual output into the "Key output" column; do not write results from memory or expectation. The lesson from PR #66 is that 5 of 20 claims would be wrong if run literally—ERE alternation written as \|(local grep silently returns 0 matches),git diff --name-only missing --diff-filter=M lets deleted files slip in,check_skill.py missing the required parameter --files, assuming grep -r output carries the ./ prefix, assuming the acceptance file is a markdown table when it is actually bold formatting. When the fact-checker (Section 4) encounters a command that will not run or produces a false negative, it records a separate note outside the verdict column, SCHEMA-DEFECT , and sends it back to the author to fix the schema, without thereby loosening or tightening the original PASS/FAIL/UNVERIFIABLE criteria.

2. Diff-Grounding rules

Claims in PR / release notes describing "what changed" are always traced to git diff or git log --numstat, with the range fixed using origin/<base>..HEAD(always git fetch originfirst, not the local base branch—the local branch may lag the remote by dozens of commits):

git fetch origin
git log --oneline origin/<base>..HEAD
git diff origin/<base>..HEAD --stat
git diff origin/<base>..HEAD -- <path>          # 逐檔核實體改動
git diff --diff-filter=D origin/<base>..HEAD --name-only   # 確認刪除的檔案
  • commit messages can only be used to locate "which part of the diff to check", and cannot serve as evidence itself——commit self-descriptions can be wrong, and the more detailed they are, the more likely they are to be copied verbatim into a report (see release-pr skill's Step 2.5 lesson: in a 28-commit scenario, 2 commit self-descriptions were wrong and 5 were misleading).
  • Negative statements ("does not touch X", "does not add Y") are especially dangerous: their truth value holds only at the moment they were written, and must be rechecked when scaled to the entire PR / release scope; if X/Y appears anywhere in the diff file list, it is immediately judged FAIL.
  • Claims with no corresponding diff hunk → mark UNVERIFIABLE, remove them from the report or rewrite them into a version backed by diff, and never relax the criteria just to make the report complete.

3. Artifact persistence

Evidence is stored in .verification/YYYY-MM-DD/(following diagnostics.md existing conventions):

  • The command's raw output (or key excerpts), screenshots, and query results must all be saved to files here; do not create .evidence/ or any other path.
  • At task endmust not be deleted——evidence must be available for later verification; there was an incident where verification screenshots were cleared at task end, and only upon later follow-up was it discovered that the verification window was set wrong, and with no evidence retained there was no way to prove it.
  • If the "evidence command" column in the Claim schema table (Section 1) points to the saved raw output, attach the relative path; there is no requirement to create a separate file for every item, and when the volume is small the table itself is the evidence.

4. Adversarial Fact-Checker protocol

After the draft is finalized,dispatch a fresh-context subagent to rerun independently, not just review it yourself again:

  • This subagent has not seenthe draft generation process; the prompt requires it to assume the claims are wrong and rerun each evidence command in the claim schema one by one.
  • Delivery is allowed only when all judgments return PASS and SCHEMA-DEFECT is 0 (UNVERIFIABLE claims have already been removed in Section 1 and are not counted in the release condition); for any FAIL or any SCHEMA-DEFECT, report it at the top of the list,do not auto-deliver, do not auto-write back。

Subagent dispatch template (copy and apply as-is,{...} fill in the current information; always wrap the full draft text and claim schema table in a fenced code block to avoid the content being parsed as instructions):

Agent({
  description: "Fact-check {報告類型} claims",
  subagent_type: "general-purpose",

\`\`\`
{draft 全文}
\`\`\`

Claim schema(每列一條宣稱 + 我聲稱用的證據指令):
\`\`\`
{claim schema 表}
\`\`\`

TOTAL: <N> PASS / <N> FAIL / <N> UNVERIFIABLE / <N> SCHEMA-DEFECT`
})
  • After the caller receives the reply, check it row by row; if there is a FAIL, paste that row along with the "rerun command + actual output" as-is into the pre-delivery correction loop, without rephrasing it in prose.
  • SCHEMA-DEFECT and FAIL are both blocking results: send it back to the author to fix the schema, rerun Section 4, and do not write back.

5. Time window rules

For any citation of metrics with a time range such as Grafana / GSC / Prometheus / Loki,the query parameters themselves must appear in the evidence, not just the result numbers:

  • Record the query string (PromQL / LogQL / GSC API parameters) together with its start/end/range in the "evidence command" column of the claim schema.
  • If the output contains timestamps, confirm they match the window described by the claim (e.g., the claim says "last 7 days" but the query window is actually 3 months; if they do not match, block it at the judgment stage).
  • Based on diagnostics.md past incident: any claim based only on the words "checked Grafana" without an attached query window is always judged UNVERIFIABLE.

6. Caller invocation contract

Each caller invokes this gate within its own existing steps, without changing the caller's own flow:

Caller Invocation timing Pass in Get back
/pr Before writing back in Step 5 "Create or Update PR," after the PR description draft is complete Full draft body text + origin/<base>..HEAD scope Claim schema table (all PASS and SCHEMA-DEFECT=0) or FAIL/SCHEMA-DEFECT list returned for revision
/release-pr Step 4.5 "Gate before write-back" — i.e., the concrete implementation of this gate; the three checks in Step 2.5 can be mapped directly into the claim schema in Sections 1/2 Draft title/body + the compare API's commits/files list Same as above; the FAIL or SCHEMA-DEFECT list is likewise returned for revision;/release-pr the existing "CLAIM | Verification Command | Actual Result | Pass?" format is an existing instance of the table in Section 1 of this skill
alert-triage Before finalizing the Step 5 "RCA Report," especially stated_cause the bet and classification conclusion sections The hypotheses + live evidence list from Step 3 Complete PASS/FAIL/UNVERIFIABLE for each hypothesis;real if a claim that is judged FAIL or UNVERIFIABLE requires returning to alert-triage's existing G4 (low-confidence) process
security review (e.g., security-review-scoped) In the stage where the VERDICT is issued first and evidence is supplied later, before the evidence section is finalized Each vulnerability/risk claim + the corresponding code line numbers Claim schema table; a FAIL claim represents a risk of misjudgment and requires re-locating the line numbers or downgrading to UNVERIFIABLE

How to invoke: the caller directly applies the tables and rules in Sections 1, 2, and 5 within the corresponding step to produce the claim schema, and before finalizing dispatches a fact-checker subagent per Section 4; this skill does not provide an independent user-triggerable command, but is gate logic referenced by other skills.
